In playing a melody with a flat picking style, I noticed that when my fretting hand and thumb shifts position to play some notes, my thumb on that hand squeaks against the back of the neck as it moves. This is not the fingers moving along the strings. It seems a bit obtrusive. Do you have a suggestion on how to lessen this noise?

Perhaps some guitar polish on the back of the neck?

My thoughts were along the lines as David Leo’s – Guitar polish or buffing the neck. You could also use some lotion on your hands to condition them, but make sure it is completely absorbed before you play the guitar. Also, loosen your grip on the back of the guitar. That is typically what causes that noise. Other than that, it is something I’ve heard from other players and they just seem to play through it and ignore it.

A little powder on your hands may work. 😊🧙‍♂️😎
