TACiversary One Year
Wow here it is the first day of May. I am a bit behind as my TACiversary was in April. What a year it was. As I look back I can only say how blessed my entire family was with the hole pandemic thing. I lost an uncle to Covid but the majority of my family stayed healthy. My husband and I were able to continue working as our jobs were considered necessary.
My guitar journey started in my teens and I had periods of playing constantly and periods where I didn’t touch my guitar for months at a time. I took some lessons with a teacher but I didn’t stick with those. I did not bond with my instructor and what he had me doing did not resonate at the time. I wish I had stayed with it now but that is water under the bridge.
I was surfing YouTube and saw Tony’s introduction to TAC and decided to give it a try. When you have a busy work schedule 10 minutes a day versus carving out 30 minutes to an hour sounds much more manageable. I have been able to stick with that with minimal breaks in my routine! That is a win!
I really liked the Fretboard Wizard course and Foundations of Fretboard Navigation. I have done some music theory for guitar books but it was Tony’s courses gave me my first big AHA moment. His explanation of what chords are in a key and how to find a key by ear made what I had picked up from the theory books come together. If you start with that the rest will fall into place much easier. Thanks Tony!!
Tony also helped me realize music, like life, is a journey. Detours are fine and can add unexpected obstacles but also exciting discoveries. I have some things to work on in the coming year to that end. I find improvisation a challenge so I will be working on that. I also find posting my playing to be an issue. I love playing with groups (I was a band and choir geek in school and have played with my church praise team) but solo performances make be nervous. I have a goal for the coming year to post an improve session and I have worked a finger style version of Edelweiss (figured out by ear) that I WILL post.
The photo is of me playing in my cleaned up reorganized craft/music room. Now my instruments and music are where I play. I have space to change strings or clean my instruments and there is no TV as a distraction so I find my 10 minute sessions extending to 45 minutes to an hour before I know it. Another win!
I am looking forward to continuing my musical journey and can tell anyone who asks that TAC is a great program to give you the tools you need in a fun doable form.
Thanks Tony!
