  • Trouble reaching frets

    Hi there,

I’m still in the beginning stages but am having a terrible time getting my fingers to stretch far enough to play chords, particularly C, D and G. I do have small hands but I’m using a smaller guitar – can anyone recommend any effective finger-stretching exercises? I love E minor, but don’t want to play that my entire life. 😉 Thanks!

The skill courses include a 5 day stretch course that has been very good for me. I’ve used this as part of my daily warmups and It has been very effective.

Moochas, thank you! Just what I was looking for (but obviously didn’t see). I’ll start stretching today. ☺

Hi Karen – In addition to the stretching, keep in mind that your fingers will become more flexible through practice and building up stamina and strength in your fingers. If you’re having a difficult time, you can always practice with a capo on the 5th fret and begin there, and then gradually move the capo back up the neck to the 3rd fret and then eventually have no capo on at all when making the chords.
