Unique "nickname" for tagging – Solution
Posted by N-lightMike on March 25, 2021 at 2:57 pmBoy, this site is buggy. This is the second time.
I was having an issue with my unique name, or “nickname”. It says the only accepted characters are letters, numbers, hyphen, underscore, and period. So only our first names are getting recognized and that’s a problem.
So I put in Mike-Gaurnier and it took it. You <i style=”font-weight: bold;”>must use a hyphen or underscore after your first name and the next capitol letter.

Looks like my nickname is still not working! I’m using hyphens but have yet to figure out how to make the text print BOLD!
-
Nor is mine @Mike-Gaurnier , but yours now shows. Note, 3 characters with a period in the middle. Took it, should work, so far, doesn’t (so I hope @t.j Dutton doesn’t get upset at me.
-
Hey @T.J
I can’t see what shows up until I hit “Post”. But, I only see the @t is orange in @t.j Dutton. There is a space in there. Gotta go. And maybe the period isn’t working or maybe you need more letters first. Try doing TJCarney or TJ.Car or TJ-Car. Try different things till you get something to work. But kill the spaces. Eventually, things will smooth out. 😁
-
Nope. Three Characters. T.J, but the system is treating my . (Period) as a Space. Note, For T.J. Dutton, not so.
MIke, somebody should have run this through a serious Beta Test before unleashing it. It was supposed to be one of the main fixes justifying the new software system. As I know you are only the messenger, I have copied @levi, his is one name that works. @tony p ‘s does not.
-
Yes, you are right T.J about this being one of the main things they wanted to get right. That’s why it makes sense that they are having such difficulty with it: Murphy’s Law. They knew they would have problems at the beginning. But what problems? The very things they wanted to work the most. 😏
-
T.J, I’ve been trying to avoid discussing the new site but your comment on the Beta Test triggered me. When I was in the military, we were taught “no battle plan survives contact with the enemy”. The second half of my adult life has been in IT and our equivalent of that military saying goes something like “no migration survives first use by end users”. A good Beta or UAT (user acceptance test) would have caught many of these glitches before they went into production. The IT folks just can’t catch everything, and I say that as a IT guy working two migrations this weekend (UAT completed today). Great point T.J (I won’t try tagging you 🙂).

@Mike56 and T.J, to your point that they should have run through a serious Beta Test before unleashing this. They had planned Tuesday through Friday. They actually released it Wednesday afternoon. The reason? So we could have access to our lessons and check the site out. Oh, yeah, and many people said previously they had experience in IT would be willing to help Beta test the new site. So “they”, that is we, are doing the serious beta test as we speak. 😃

@Mike-Gaurnier , I had same problem with nickname. Was only seeing First Name. So I chose to put a period between them and now it seems to work. Maybe we need to suggest some sort of standard character for everyone to use or this is likely to be a real problem down the line. I don’t care which valid character we use, I just think everyone should do it the same way…
-
Hey @lance.hankins, yeah I didn’t think so. It’s still not working. If it was, it would say Lance.Hankins next to your profile pic, both here on the page, and at the top where your profile pic lives. 🤔
MG 😃😃
-
@Mike-Gaurnier , I changed mine to a dash like you did. It’s weird, because on my own page, it did show my name as Lance.Hankins before. Anyway, now I should show as Lance-Hankins. Let’s see if that helps.
-
@Lance-Hankins Yep, it worked. Well, we know there are still a lot of bugs. The directions say that a period would work. But apparently not. But it’s good to know that we can get our unique names to work right now. 😁
-
Thanks @Mike-Gaurnier . Appreciate the assist. Looks like dashes are the key…

Know your feelings. Lost my nickname that I have had since the beginning of TAC.
Dan (or now was-dan)

Yeah, @was-dan there have been some unintended bummers that came along with the migration.
