Fingers too short for these exercises.
-
A little messy but doable. Get hung up sometimes switching to the fifth fret.
-
I need this. These fingers have taken a beating over time. Need to make them longer too!
-
Good excerise really stretched my fingers

Good stretching exercise for the fingers
-
This is what I needed to find. Because I don’t have that flexibility, I have cheated for years, which has created layers of bad habits.
-
This was not easy but I was able to do it slowly. Now the challenge is to do it regularly to build up the stretch…kinda like when lifting weights.
-
this one not difficult for me
-
I don’t know what’s happening with the 3rd and 4th strings, but the stretch from 6th to 7th frets is not happening between the index and middle fingers on those two strings.
-
Good exercise for left hand finger stretches, i play Spanish Style any way with a guitar strap! Fun! Merry Christmas 2023 Completed 12/23/2023 Saturday!
-
Great exercise
-
Tony. I look at your hands and wonder, are they really large? Your pinkie has no problem making that stretch. Mine just won’t go there. And i have big hanks Of course, this is why I’m doing this challenge..
-
That was a stretch. I needed to start at 7th fret as you said.
-
What a great little exercise! I managed it a bit better than I expected, but obviously this is a perfect one to add to my regular practice regime. Oddly, I found the toughest stretch was from index to middle finger on the lower strings. Shouldn’t be surprised, I suppose, since most chords shapes I know seem to have the index and middle fingers close together, while the ring and pinky do the stretching. I often find my ring or middle finger unintentionally muting the A string when I play a G chord, so this exercise should help with that. The further I get into TAC, the more convinced I am that Tony is the man!
-
Its a hard but good practice
-
Help I cannot even get my pinky to stretch and make good contact with the low E, A, D strings when starting at fret 8. How in the world is this possible?
-
LOL!!! Well, at least has proved to us that he has a sense of humor!
I have small hands for a guy, but holy cow. I don’t know what feels more stretched, my fingers or my wrist from trying to crank it around far enough for my little finger to reach the low E. If I try the “classic” position that Tony talks about, I can do fairly well, but still………-
Oops! At least TONY has proved his sense of humor. Guess I should have proof read better.

My pinky is abnormally short.
-
He didn’t mention it, but you should make sure your hands are already warmed up before doing these stretches. Just play something your already know or some 1234, 4321, 1324, 4321, etc. on any fret that is comfortable for about 5 minutes. This should make it much easier to perform these stretches.
-
Yow. This stretch reminds me of my cello playing days 55 years ago. Fun to work the fingers again.
-
OK, 5 days on the index stretch starting on 9th fret and still can’t get the 13th fret with the pinkie! Couple that with the inability to do any barre chords and I’m starting to doubt seriously, and the fun, enthusiasm, and consistency I was having up until then is fading fast.
-
I’m glad I decided to read the comments. It’s nice to hear that others struggle with stretching. It became very obvious to me when I was struggling through High and Lonesome. I was glad to find this exercise but would have probably remained discouraged if I hadn’t read the comments. I will persevere, no matter how long it takes!
-
Glad I decided to forgo the F Barre for now and work on these stretches. Had to start on 9th fret, but able to mostly get them tonight, albeit with some pretty weird finger placement. This will take a lot more than 5 days just with the index and working toward 5th fret, but the processes the product.
-
WooW i can see how these stretches are important
-
I find this exercise really hard to do. I don’t seem to have enough separation between my fingers.
Do you recommend some hand exercises?-
Ive struggled big time with this too. Had to start way down on the 9th fret and after a month or so I have managed to be able to do this on the 5th fret but only on the G B or high E. It is absolutely improving my distances and worth a few minutes each day. I found it better to end my practice with it so I don’t over strain my fingers right away and ruin the rest of my practice

I’ve been looking for some good tips on how to get my pinky to stretch. I think i finally found something. Thanks Tony
-
excellent exercise
-
For me, this is gonna be more like a “Finger Stretch….. 25 Day….. Challenge”.
-
LOL!
-
-
Great work out for a small hand with short fingers. Definitely feeling the stretch at the 5th. I will be working my way to the nut for some better finger placement.
-
If I start on five I can’t do it. But if I warm up on fret six and then go back to five after a few minutes all the sudden I can do it at 5
-
Good Idea, I think Im going to try that…thx
-
-
Accidentally hit the complete button on day 1, but these puppies are harder than they look ,I can feel the stretch
-
great exercise love the stretch, the hard part is finger placement memory Fun!
-
10 min hand is way tired now. I think this is good.
-
Very good exercise! In about 5 minutes I was definitely more stretched out. Thanks
-
