Day 5 – Tag Along

My small win was not so much the vibrato part, but the 7 chord shapes, and using those chord
“fragments”. I hadn’t known or used those up until now. -
Love the different type of vibrato-did not know any other than shaking th strings. Love it
-
I do hear the delta blues in this exercise. Finger picking seems to give an entirely different tone.
-
The win for me was learning these new chords and using vibrato along with them.
-
Again, I didn’t know these chords so that is a win for me! I love the vibrato on the higher notes. Very cool.
-
Nice tunes but quite hard on the fretting hand.
-
Having fun with this one
-
Played every day, missed a couple days last week so had to play catch-up for a few days. Felt good about the challenges this week, made a lot of improvements with my vibrato!
-
I find I am able to ring the higher string cords cleaner using a down stroke with the back of my nails of my middle, ring, and pinky finger. Still need to improve on the vibrato wiggle of the left hand but slowly getting some improvement. My win is to complete this lesson even if a few days behind. I like it. Look forward to including this technique into my playing. Have fun. 🙂
-
A fair sized win for me. I used the back of my hand to strum as we did in another lesson and was able to hit the chords and the vibrato sounded good.
-
I learned 3 new chords A7, D7, and E7!
-
I never heard of Vibrato and it was kind of difficult getting a grasp on playing it. My small win was showing up.
-
Enjoyed working on the chord vibrato again. Played it much better today.
-
Interesting version of a 12 Barre Blues, using triplets and Bass Notes. Fun as well!
-
Its timing is interesting that it can be rushed if one is paying attention. To me it seems somewhat hypnotic. It was good to practice it some to get use to the vib of it. Thanks! a
-
Vibrato is still awkward for me but I showed up and gave it an honest try. I will have to work more on this.
-
My small win was getting caught up on all the vibrato lessons after being on vacation without my guitar for five days!
-
Didn’t know there are 3 different approaches to vibrato:
“Confined vibrato” – shaking in a limited space
“Leverage vibrato” – wiggling using the base of you index finger for leverage
“Edgy vibrato” – bending the strings
Already knew about bending, so my small win is learning two new ways to play vibrato. At the beginning of the week I had difficulty doing confined vibrato, just not much shaking going on. Today it was much better because I shook the neck a little. Fun week!already knew about bending.
-
This was a good week – enjoyed the challenges – definitely a small win. However, confined vibrato (especially on strings 1, 2. and 3) is going to take (a lot?) more work. Tomorrow starts a new week!!!
-
Have not heard of this technique.
-
Good session today! Really enjoy the mini chords and the blues feel. if you palm mute the bass notes, this adds a cool effect. My small win – finishing 3 lessons this week.
-
Completed the Vibrato week today so i lost my streak but now know the drive to get to my guitar and play/practice is part of my life style. As a new senior member, almost 70, the playing seems to be good brain food, awakening some sleeping dendrites and synapses in the gray matter. I find a lot of the techniques difficult or even above my abilities so I find an easier method to chord or modify to meet my limitations. The vibrato week, if nothing else, has certainly toughened my fingertips. And I did find the the thumb and finger strumming calming, peaceful and enjoyable as we slid from A7-D7-E7.
-
Today i played the chords and vibrato over and over again, and i can say that this was a win for me today.Every thing went a lot smoother, and both the chords and vibrato sounded way better then yesterday.
-
I need to work on the chord changes but the vibrato is sounding okay.
-
I’ve been playing this as softly as possible (due to people sleeping in the home) and found it’s still possible to produce a quaint vibrato and a lot of fun trying to get the most sound out of the guitar while keeping it subdued!
-
A great technique for making playing more interesting.
-
My timing was better, my A vibrato sounds good, D is OK and E is better than D. I have to remember fingertips to get a good vibrato.
-
Another awesome challenge for me this week I always wanted to try vibrato. Not really good at it but I like it……..
-
I did okay with the cord changes but had a hard time with the high string cord vibrato.
getting my 3 fingers to move together was a real challenge.
played my guitar every day.-
I had a hard time with that awhile back and started with just using vibrato on the bass note only. Then after I felt comfortable with that I added the treble string closest to the floor, on your neck. Then I added the middle chord string last and made sure I was using the finger tips so I didn’t mute any other strings. Some chords I just use the bass and bottom tremble string when making chord vibrato.
I do like the bass vibrato string tone a lot and use just that string, a lot, in chord shapes.
-
-
I have a spastic wiggle. Uncontrolled and wild. I think maybe with time and better finger strength, it will improve. It’s a fun little workout.
-
Before TAC, I was too impatient, and never really learned chords. I merely picked out familiar melodies by ear, and as I progressed I added in what Tony calls simulated chords with two strings. I didn’t know what they notes were, other than if they sounded good or not.
All this is to say that this week fell under my fingers easier than most lesson thus far, and now have more vibrato savvy in my toolbox. I’m learning sooo much! -
I gave it another try today and it sounded a little better!
-
small win: learned three new styles of vibrato and how to use them.
-
Can’t believe how motivating these challenges are! Thanks Tony!
-
I went over it again today and it sounds better. The more i practice the easier the chord transitions get.
-
a little better today; i showed up every day
-
Today actually went better than all the other days. I didn’t realize there were 3 different ways to play vibrato. I have been consistent with practice, just need to spend more time. It’s been busy with family stuff lately. I did like the sound. Need to work on the fingers, they struggle to wiggle:)
-
This week was review which is always good but, I was able to make this progression sound pretty cool. Once I had the A7, D7, E7 consistent with good timing I added a one fret slide into the A7. That made the exercise change from playing to feeling!
-
My win this week that I was able to complete the whole week and I liked how I sounded. I was able to keep up and play along in time.
-
My small win was getting the rythem down. I am used to simple strumming patterns
-
Didn’t know about the different approaches for vibrato. I missed yesterday – and didn’t log in. I wish my days in a row didn’t reset…. I try to remember to log in at least and see what I should be doing. I’d rather just log play sessions vs the weeks I have been in tac than have it reset and kind of punish me! (I am a dog trainer who tries to never use punishers cause they don’t feel good!)
-
I hear you @LeslyT we’ve all lost streaks, sometimes because we missed days but other times when we actually played and those really can be annoying. I just make sure to log in once a day and go to the home page, I watch it rollover (or make sure the counter has incremented). I’ll usually do my daily session right there but sometimes I might have something to get done first and I’ll return to it later. I almost always play my guitar several times a day but it won’t always be in front of my computer.
-
Yes. I’m the same I play daily and sometimes forget to go back to the counter. Just open where I left off. It does push you to build the habit which is the point I guess!
-

-
Small win: We moved this week which is just part of life but it was brutal. However, it took until Saturday but I finished the week and totally got into the challenge.
-
I loved this week’s challenge. At least, the sounds I was making sounded like music. There was some buzzing on Friday, but it was easy to fix.
-
i got the shake!! Was getting easier going back to it later in the day!!
-
I’m a vibrato virgin. I really liked learning about it and the three methods. One thing I’d appreciate is a short overview in the Friday lessons to cover any new terms like “confined”, “edgy”… I know I can go back but I’d appreciate it in the last lesson as a summary so I can focus on just that one each week for my Saturday and Sunday sessions.
For me, my vibrato is still a bit iffy particularly confined… my hand just seems too stiff to move that way… I’m sure it will come with practice.-
I feel like I’m having te same issue, and am pushing down on the strings to hard and need to relax hand more.
-
-
Small or large win, depending on how you look at it. I was very busy and tired on Thursday and Friday and did not play at all. But I was able to get both lessons in on Saturday. Still need to work on my Vibratto technique, but I see the usefulness, and had a lot of fun. I suffer from a large dose of FOMO when I miss any lesson days!
-
I’m just hopping on today for the first time ever. Am I supposedto start here?

Vibrato is new to me!
-
Vibrato makes your whole finger dance…

Going back to the 3/4 Finger Picking/ strumming lesson helped a lot for a warm up so I could concentrate on the vibrato.
Congratulations, !
Challenge complete
Come back tomorrow for your next challenge
