Welcome! You’re on a good path. Recording yourself is a great way to see the progress that will come. You will see it. You’ll wake up that muscle memory.

</div>@BarbaraM in my opinion there is no right or wrong here. It is a matter of personal choice. The process asks that you spend 10 mins on a challenge. In my situation, if I really don’t like something I do the 10 mins and move on to practice something else. When it came to barre chords, which I hated, I practiced every challenge really hard because I thought that barre chords were that important. It took me seven months before I could get my first barre chord. Every time a barre chord lesson came around I would curse a little and do the lesson. I thought to myself that I will never be able to do this, but I suffered through them. Finally, I made peace with them and did learn them. Personally, I’m glad I practiced something I hated, but that might not be the same for someone else. One thing Tony has said, though, always finish your practice playing something that makes you happy. Close the practice on a happy note.

So sorry to hear about your horrible accident. It sounds painful and sadly frustrating that it will interfere with your great enjoyment of playing the guitar. I trust that you will do everything that you can to get back to playing even though it might take much longer than you would like. I understand the frustration. I had a small stroke in June and I am just now back to the daily challenges – playing slowly and remaking or making new muscle memory paths. Our guitar journeys can hit some hard roadblocks but it is a soulful joy to get through those times and keep going. You have inspired me so often with your contributions to the TAC community. Please persevere and I look forward to some time in the future when you can post your next song.

That was fun. You seem very comfortable playing this and I assume there are people out there off camera so hats off that you are this comfortable in front of people. You are an inspiration of what is possible.

Carter shows us that music flows in all of us. We just need to channel it and let it out. He is precious. I hope your blessings continue and you are back in full strength soon. Thanks for your post.

Really nice job. You seem quite at easy with the barre chords. The playing was smooth and seemed to just flow with the your powerful and emotional singing. Really pulled me into to the experience.

Very nice. Both your playing and singing were so smooth. Absolutely beautiful!

You never disappoint with your improvs. They are always amazing. That’s hardly what I would call a “try”. Thanks for always inspiring me.

Welcome back @Mrfredsporty . I’ve had a similar revelation. Although I never officially left, I failed to log in on a daily basis and roamed around the internet instead. After New Year’s I decided that I missed Tony and the forum and I wasn’t really progressing or playing regularly with a purpose. So my realization was that the daily challenges give me both consistency and purpose. Coming back is already showing progress in this month’s challenges. I like the new song based lessons and I went back to Fretboard Wizard and found that it has been revised and improved. Yep, I’m back and know this is where I belong.

You are so brave to put yourself out there in order to learn and get better. I am so timid and really afraid to put myself out there. I find it really endearing when you kind of chuckle at yourself if something doesn’t go quite the way you want. I can see that you accept your journey as it is with the bumps and all. It is a lesson for me. Keep going girl; it helps me to keep going.

I gave up – just couldn’t get past the frustration with the chords. Then I turned to a finger style version of the song. Gave up on that and put it away. Put my guitar aways for a few months as well. So I will try again. You are a guitar warrior – you battle through and don’t back down. Bravo!

@Loraine, this reply is a little late because I back slid yet again and haven’t logged into TAC for awhile. We used to be at about the same level in skill so I have followed your progress closely feeling a kindred spirit. However, you have left me behind and now you are an inspiration to work towards. Your chords transitions are so smooth now and strumming seems so automatic so that singing does not disrupt your rhythm. Your voice has progressed as well. I’m really impressed since last I listened to you. Great job and kudos for persistently working toward your goal. I will use you as a model to keep going. Thank you.

You mentioned that 5 fret stretch. I can’t do it on my full size guitar and barely on my Little Martin, but I’m using that little power chord sequence as a stretching exercise. I have small hands and less flexible with age. I find it a cool little daily exercise to get my fingers as flexible as possible at my age. I will probably never play Rock n Roll Hoochie Too (it’s not my thing) but the exercise is good for me.
