Always liked the thought of “Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.” Here in Austin we got to hear Janis sing it at The Tavern where she would play. Nice job @danwynne

I’m sitting in my solarium just mellowing out with you. Nice chord progression.

Way to sniff out that trail you old bloodhound. Good job.

I learned all the notes on the fretboard by using them like counting sheep to relax and go [back] to sleep.
I started at the head stock from 6th to 1st string. At first I recalled only major scale frets (2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 12th). Later after those were comfortable I added those in between.
Then later I began to mentally do all 7 notes singly all over the fretboard (starting with a root (say A, then the 3rd, C, then the 5th, E). Then use the fifth, E to act as the new root… then 3rd, G… then 5th, B. Etc. Etc. I not only learned the notes that way but the chordal relationships and the Nashville numbering system. I never did it as a learning session or with the guitar. I just did it mentally as a prelude to rest or when I was doing a repetitive task like weeding. In about a month or two I had the fretboard memorized and never felt like it was real work.
Kudos to you for sharing your tuner learning tool idea.

When I started TAC, I don’t think I had one flat picking song in my playlist. But just to have fun I went to the TAC vault and found one. It was fun. I found two. I added a crosspicking tune.
But I continued to also fingerpick. You aren’t resource constrained and it isn’t a competition.
So I do whatever comes up. I give it a try. Old Robert Johnson and Blues stuff. Tried it and it is fun too even though I am sorry at it. So my advice is to try whatever comes up. It’s only 10 minutes. To repeat…You are not resource constrained (and haven’t missed a meal unless on purpose). The saying is “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly at first”.

Ain’t it fun to have something you enjoy? Congratulations on the big 5-0-0.

Somewhere in the Acoustic Tuesday Archives I seem to recall Tony did a show on this topic or one very close to this topic. I watched a few back then. You might check it out.

It may have been an instrumental but I was singing along! Thanks.

Thank you for asking the question. I had an interest in the responses too.

I used these three books during my extended vacation this summer and they have been helpful. I’m on #3 now.
