Ok @david I’ve really enjoyed your Dylan series and tried not to be too superfluous but I would love to be able play and sing along to Dylan songs like you can and am making a real effort to learn the guitar as a life long beginner. In an attempt to answer your plea for more people to join in here is my effort (go easy) at the start of this song still a lot more work to do before you add me to the list of names celebrating bobs birthday 😂 here is my try at learning a song that isn’t a polecastro arrangement
I think, although this changes daily my favourite Dylan song is “I was young when I left home”. I heard a female artist I can’t recall the name recently cover this and it blew me away. I also saw a female Swedish artist who went by the moniker idiot wind who did such moving versions of her own songs but she also did a version of idiot wind which I found so inspiring it struck a chord and moved me to pick up the guitar at this later stage of my journey ✌️

I’m struggling atm staying positive as my work load has really altered my routine so I’m not getting in as much practice as I’d like. On the positive side tho My routine I’ve created has meant I’ve been getting the minimum in so I’m taking that as a win to keep me ticking over until I can get on top of my work/life balance. In the past things like this would have me hanging up my guitar. Lot to be said for creating a resilient routine that you are able to adapt.

Another brilliant song choice @David well played I like how you kept your own voice I think it would be too easy for me to fall into doing my best Bob impression ( if I could sing)
if you want to hear a good Bob impression and good song try listening to Loudon Wainright 3rds song “talking Bob Dylan” I heard it this week on a show about his 80th bday and it’s a great song and quite funny if you can find it.

Awesome, Dylan is my main inspiration for wanting to learn the guitar. Hope I can play like this one day. Cheers.

Hi @Randall you might have already found it. There is tab (written example) of the lessons available it’s a little note button in faint gray, bottom right of the lessons. I tend to pop the video out (this is a button at the bottom of the player) and then go to the tab. This way I have Tony’s explanation and a written version as well at the same time. This might save some going back and forth. Hope I’ve explained it ok although I might have just confused you more 😂 sorry

Cheers @David I’m trying to learn two Dylan songs now. It’s not really the chords that give me the bother I’ve got pretty good at transitioning between the open ones it’s the strumming and the little flourishes that make it sound good and not like I’m starting a lawnmower I struggle with. because when I find tabs it tends to just be chords. I like Tony’s lessons and I tend to learn them quite easily because of the way they are presented but i haven’t quite learnt how to translate this into songs I want to learn yet. Getting there tho, I’ve been doing a lot of work on walking up and down into chords like Dylan does and picking bass notes, getting close but not quite clicked yet… thanks for posting your video it’s good to see others doing it.
