Hi @ZADavid , I found quite a few other places that were teaching me how to play stuff but this site (TAC) is the only place that I found that teaches how to play guitar. It is a fantastic training center for learning how to play guitar. I use the word training intentionally because I found it is training, mind and body. It is the gymnasium of the guitar education world. Without this training I was not able to learn to play the things I wanted to play even though I had memorized the movements and locations I couldn’t physically get to the places in the right time that the songs I wanted to play required. Based on my research this site is unique in that regard. Michael Jordan could show me how to slam dunk and I could go through his motions and never get the ball to the hoop. Gotta train your body to jump that high, squats, jump squats, speed training etc. Hope that makes sense. Only you can decide if it will work for you. It did work for me.
As far as where it is going? Music is a big circle so the beginning is the end and the end is the beginning. The subdivision of notes can get smaller or bigger and time can be faster or slower. Within the circle once you are trained, you get to go where ever you heart desires.

Hi @forjka1@gmail.com , check out the Friday Lessons, they have just what you are looking for. The video has accompanying chords that “flash” on the changes. If you just focus on the note indicated you will have what you are looking for. You will have at least two opportunities of note choice for most of the chords. Your ears will tell you if you hit the right note once you have identified the location of the notes. This is off label use of the exercise but it works. Slow the exercise down to a speed where you are can eliminate tension. There are usually 3 chords presented in a key but there are weeks where it addresses all the chords in the key. If you did this every week you would find 3 notes and their octaves per week to memorize. No extra effort other than refocusing the intention of the exercise. Don’t forget to do the chords too. By doing both of these things you will learn the root note positions relative to the chord shapes and that is a huge advantage. : )

MemberMay 5, 2021 at 7:47 am in reply to: Please go back and complete the previous challenge. In the context of our lessons “Complete” means you have given it a go for 10 min. You can assign any personal definition you find beneficial. For the purpose of the lessons the 10 minute effort is the key. If you have done your 10 min click “complete”. When you favorite a lesson, you can go back to it as long as that lesson remains in your favorites. I will often use Mondays warm-up lesson all week long before doing the lesson of the day. In this case I don’t favorite the given warm-up but rather I access it once I have gotten to the lesson of the day and pressed start. I just pause it and use the lesson list on the left side of the screen to go back to the Monday warm-up.

Hi @JerrySfromNC , it took me a few years to figure out that playing slow was the key to playing fast. It wasn’t until I watched fellow TACer @Carol-3M-Stillhand , that I saw the tremendous benefit of tension management. For me that meant slowing down to 30 bpm and almost doing a slo-mo flow with my hand. This allowed me to expel the tension not only from my fingers but also from my mind (equally important for me).

Hi @Michelle-PSL , maybe you are priming the pump. Absence makes the heart grow fonder?? I say, buy a guitar for your husband and throw out the TV. I was so good, but I just couldn’t help myself. 🤣

Looking Good @David_G . One of the truest things I have read…..”1. Doing my daily challenge and Fretboard Wizard keeps me off YouTube where I get distracted by wanting to learn a new song every time I look.”……..100% my experience as well.

MemberMay 8, 2021 at 11:53 am in reply to: Never played guitar before and could use some help please.Hi @Jolene welcome. I will be the dissenting voice and encourage you to explore the daily lessons. I will try to encourage you to feel new rather than useless. New is good we can work with that and in time you won’t be new. They will seem extremely challenging at first but over time they will reveal their absolute brilliant utility. Don’t worry about speed or if you could play the whole exercise rather take the time (10 minutes required for completion, it is time in the saddle, not how you ride) to explore the sound of your guitar and how you interact with it. Take some time holding your guitar get comfortable with it on your leg, in your arms. For the exercise take a portion of it slow it down to the place where your mind is comfortable and work on the fingers. For me this has a times been as slow as 30 beats per minute. That is one down stroke for every 2 seconds. Or a downstroke 1 second and an upstroke on the next second. Focus on the first measure of the exercise. Most of the time this will be the first eight notes you hear. If that is too much do the first four and just take some time on that. Always work to eliminate tension in your mind and then your arms and hands and fingers. Press hard enough to make a clean sound but not overly hard, just hard enough. This is how progress is made. This is how guitar players are made. Some folks are born players but I was a learner and a slow learner but this is the path of my progress. I like the suggestion of finding a song you want to learn and the other suggestion was the 30 days to play challenge should yield some satisfying results. Check back in the forums and let us know when you have a good moment and also if you find the road blocked. Every one of us has been right where you are. We walk together now. I wish you fast easy progress.

Good point @Alfred . Instead of It playing through you (POD), You play gracefully and easily through It (Golden Pick).

More or less in line is about the gist of it @Maydog . Now when I put my bow through the wind, I TAC with intention.

Hi @polarpeak75 , all three of those things get addressed in the daily lessons. Now that your curiosity has been piqued pay close attention to the daily lessons written introductions as well as the video explanations and these things will start popping out at you like corn in hot oil. Focus as much attention as you can on not only executing the daily lessons but mentally comprehending them as well. My first few years here I missed a large part of the mental theory comprehension because I was so focused on the physical execution of the exercises. It’s all in there though. And if you get stuck put it out there in the forum.
