Admire your dedication! I have shortish, fat fingers. Have at times relied heavily on 3 and 4 string chords in order to play basic accompaniment for songs I’m learning. Then gradually expand as my fingers adjust.

I make my own “in case humidifiers” from small plastic food storage containers and common sponges.

12 string is a great idea. Be sure to consider playability and intonation accuracy, as well as sound.

Strings would not normally need replacing after just a month, but conditions vary. Yes, try cleaning and be sure to wipe them down after each use. Coated strings may definitely help with longevity.

I find the 12 string is actually easier on my finger tips. Lighter gauge, less tension, pairs of strings distribute pressure. Best benefit, they make you sound better than you are 🙂
