That’s a great resonator and I’m sure you will have loads of fun. Blues and slide just don’t sound the same on other guitars. This resonator will really bring out the flavor of these styles of guitar music. And you can play “normal” music on the resonator also and it gives it a very unique sound. In my opinion, resonators are particularly good at play lead guitar solos.
I hope you have years of enjoyment. Congrats.

Ok, this may be a little over the top, but I’m gonna link one more of his videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkoN0uNFcYE
Here, he is playing Bohemian Rhapsody solo, with only a guitar and his voice. What’s amazing to me is how he has imitated the piano parts throughout the song. Of course, he throws in some harmony at times and naturally he gives us very credible renditions of Brian Mays guitar solos. But yeah, that’s pretty standard stuff on the guitar, though he does it masterfully. But it’s how he imitates a piano that is very instructive to me. It’s a technique/style I hadn’t seen before and it something that could be used in our playing as it’s not super incredible skill, just really creative use of the guitar. Of course, you’d have to know how to translate piano riffs and chords to the guitar neck.

So here’s a specific video I watched that displays Shun’s unique and spectacular style:

Notice that he’s using a custom guitar with adjusted intonation so the guitar can be in an open tuning. The bridge, nut and frets are all at an angle.

Thanks @Mrfredsporty . But where do I find him? On YouTube? Is his channel the same as his name? A link would make it easier even if that’s the case. But again, thanks for the heads up.
Ok, I found him. Yep, he’s on YouTube and his channel is Shun Ng. Here’s a ling:

I would be thrilled, @Moonhare , if you were to get some benefit from this. Also, check out the other post:

If any of this helps, awesome. If not, well, not a big deal. None of this is necessary. Your ears will always be a better guide in music than your brain, Darren.

I am really happy this is working for you @Carnelia . I hadn’t thought of things in the way of learning or memory type. That’s an interesting idea. I just know that this fretboard “math” has helped me like no other technique I’ve tried.
Thank you for letting me know it’s working for you. I have started figuring out the “math” as I play scales that I have known for a long time. Yet, I find that I really understand them like I never have before when I “do the math”. I really don’t understand, I just know it’s working for me.
Here is another post I made covering the same concept in a little bit different way:

I hope this helps.

There are a lot of types of guitars and styles of guitar playing. I think one of the most important parts of our guitar journey is finding out where in the big world of guitar we want to be. I look forward to hearing some of your reso playing. Maybe you can join one of our VOMs and play or post a recording here on TAC.

Yeah, @Kitman , I keep trying to figure out a way to share what I’ve learned. But it seems I think so much differently than many people that a lot of others simply don’t relate. But I’m very happy I can help anyone who sees the value of understanding the intervals across the strings. You have checked out every single chart I’ve posted, and I’m happy to share. I hope these charts have contributed to your guitar journey.

Yes, I have no doubt there is great satisfaction in building your own guitar, @Rando . I would think that was a guitar to treasure for sure. (I’m only a little envious. 😉)

👍😊
Actually, @SciencePete , you don’t need to wait to contribute to the community. And you don’t need to be the one sharing your knowledge. By participating in the community, you are contributing to all of us. And when you share a small win, you are sharing your experience, which inspires all of us even if we are farther along our guitar journey.
So thank you for your part in this amazing community, Pete.

Thank you, @TMutter . You have brought so much to our community by your stellar example of a singer/songwriter. That is the ultimate goal in my mind. I know that you have had a very positive effect on my guitar journey and I thank you for that.

First, thank you @SoCal_Ian . But second, you can’t spare 10 minutes? Or, you can do all the dailies flawlessly?
I don’t believe I need TAC anymore. But it helps me stay grounded in my guitar routine and it continues to push me to try stuff I have not yet developed. There’s not too much that’s new anymore, but I just haven’t gotten all the techniques down.
So, if you still don’t want to visit TAC more often, I understand. But you are missed. And not just by me. We used to be “mentors”. There is a continual supply of new guitar players here on this forum where we can share what we have learned. I love that. Tony could be a performing musician, but he spends more time giving help to others than playing on stage. I’m on that page. Well, except for the part about having the choice to be a performing musician. I may never be good enough to have that choice. And until then, I can learn more and give more away here on TAC. (You know me. I’m the king of arm twisting on the VOMs and I’m proud of it. 😎😂)

Yeah, @MarkD66 , I just work out what notes are where all the time now by the math. And the more I do it, the more automatic it becomes for me. I can do chord tones, roots, 3rds and 5ths, I can do scales, it all just makes sense to me now. I’m really glad it’s helping you.

Thank you so much, @Kitman . It is a great honor to contribute to the guitar journey of another person, so thank you for the feedback. I can honestly say you have contributed to my guitar journey as well. And that’s the real joy of these communities, that it really is a 2 way street. 😎
