    Hello @schmiderific

    There is a lot of confusion now a days, especially among guitar players, about what a “key” is. People refer to the “key” of C major and the “key” of Am. Neither of those are a key. Since they are in the same key, they are 2 different names for the same thing. Obviously, this would lead to confusion. A “key” is the specific set of 7 notes. C major is in the key of “no sharps or flats” (no one ever came up with unique names for the keys, they just used the name for the major, or Ionian, mode of the key).

    The reason I bring this up is because you have listed different keys. G major has 1 sharp. Therefore the next 2 lines would have to have only 1 sharp. We are simply using a trick to write out the chords within this key. But you must use the same set of notes, otherwise, you are going “out of key”, which is called “non-diatonic”.

    Hello @Kristin1

    One of the people who attends the VOMs regularly says he has something like over 400 songs on his play list. I was amazed and asked him how he stays up on them. He told me that he has a database containing all the songs he has learned, and he keeps it updated when each song is played on a VOM. He doesn’t actually record when he practices them, but he usually plays through them before the VOM. And he attends a lot of VOMs, not just the ones we guitar geeks run.

    For myself, I don’t have that many songs, but I still have trouble keeping up with all of them. I am trying to play some songs everyday. It seems that a new song has to be played almost everyday for weeks before it becomes a “back pocket song”. Once it’s a back pocket song, I find I don’t have to play it more often than every other month or so. But, I don’t just play it once. I go through it several times, play it in a VOM, maybe record it. And then it can be set back for a while again.

    Honestly, I’m still working on perfecting my song rotation and keeping them sharp. So far, I can only keep a handful sharp, maybe 20, though I know at least double that. I have, at least, made a list and have started trying to keep track of playing them once in a while.

    I hope this helps. I hope others come by and share their system of keeping songs sharp. I could use more ideas.

    Hey TJ @AttyTJ ;

    Right from the beginning on the old forum, I was always inspired by your posts/comments and frequently was moved to reply and/or join the discussion.

    I hope your knee is doing well. What do you say to a knee, anyway? Hello knee, how are you today? Anyway, maybe you could pass along my hope for your knee to your knee. 😅

    My suggestion, for this first segment, what’s it, 2 weeks? Mr Bojangles.

    Remember, Anthony ( @tonyvm3avm@gmail.com ), you only have to fret the A string, first fret. You don’t need to fret any other string, including the high E to make this chord work. That being said, get you ring finger down first and then get your index to that A string.

    If this is what you have already been trying, I have 2 other suggestions. 1st, some people play this with their pinky. I don’t know if you have tried that. The other thing is to stop the video when Tony does it and very carefully analyze the position of his hand and wrist and elbow and fingers. Then try to imitate his position the best you can. When I do this, I can actually make a better A shaped barre chord.

    I hope this helps.

    I am really happy for you @Marisa . You have certainly been a great asset to the community. I feel everyone who finds TAC has been blessed in their guitar journey. I feel everyone who chooses to participate in the community gets extra blessings.

    I think you must have a gift for music because your videos are so amazing. You are one of those people who can use what ability you have to great benefit. I’m the opposite. I have to have intermediate ability to perform on a beginner level. People like you really inspire us. Thanks for that and may your guitar journey continue to bring blessings to you and those around you.

    That is so great @lloyd , thank you for sharing. I know the TAC method works and I have had my own success, but it’s still very inspiring to hear someone else’s experience with the method. I am very happy for you that you have had improvement in your guitar journey.

    I’ll be sure not to suggest any Neil Diamond or John Denver, though I love both of them. I don’t know any Neil Diamond songs, though, other than the one he wrote for the Monkees.

    This is a wonderful story, Mark ( @mkjohnsons ). I am really happy that you have this guitar, and I am especially happy how you finally got it. Yah! That’s so much fun. 😍

    I own a 12 string, but I can’t add much to what @Carol-3M-Stillhand already said. Excellent advice. But, I can add one thing. Many 12 string players use light or extra light strings. In fact, I found some “ghs”, 12 string, light, silk and steel, strings on JustStrings.com. They are actually super light. Starting from the low E string, the gauge is 22,42; 15,34; 11,26; 09,20; 13,13; 10,10. As you look around for stings you will find these are quite a bit lighter than anything else, including sets labeled extra lights.

    As far as playing, I don’t know that I could add much to what Carol said. I have found that the 12 string forces me to be more precise with my finger placement on the strings. I have found that I can play it fingerstyle, but it demands more precision, again. But the chimey sound is enhanced by using a pick. So I am going to start using my thumb and finger picks as suggested by @David_Leo .

    I went through this process a while back, @Cadgirl .

    I found 2 things that decided my choice. The first is that 12 string guitars are almost exclusively dreadnoughts or jumbos. I already did that experiment and decided I would never again own a dreadnought or jumbo. The only 12 string I found that is smaller is the Breedlove Solo Concert 12 string. I believe the Concert is equivalent to an Auditorium body size.

    The second factor is the playability. Breedlove uses a bridge truss rod, which they invented, that makes this 12 easier to play than most. And the headstock design, which a few others have something similar, also helps with playability. Here is the Breedlove webpage where you can get all the scoops on this guitar;

    https://breedlovemusic.com/acoustic-guitars/2018-solo-concert-12-string-acoustic-guitar

    These have become difficult to find as they are made overseas, but here is a link to a store that still has one at the same price I paid;

    https://www.riskomusic.com/products/amps/acoustic/solo-concert-12-string-ce-red-cedar-ovangkol

    I only provided this information for you to consider. It won’t bother me regardless what decision you make. I would be interested in what you choose when you reach that point.

    👍 I couldn’t agree more with @tailsawaggin , Mark ( @mkjohnsons ). Turn the question around, how would you feel if you DON’T get it.

    I love that statement you made @Marisa : “I am actually learning the guitar and singing again!”

    That is true of so many of us, that we wanted music in our lives but didn’t seem to be able to do that on our own. TAC and the community has done that for us, brought music into our lives. Awesome. 😊
