Great job Michelle. And I look forward to your last 5 choices. I’m gonna have to try to catch all 5 just for fun.

Hey Mark, (@mkjohnsons)
I wanted to add my vote. It’s the same as the other three comments. Do the Fretboard Wizard Course as soon as possible. It is not beyond you. It will open so many doors for you right from the start. You will start understanding what you are trying to do. You will understand the guitar better. You will understand music better. You will appreciate the music you like better. You will learn your guitar faster. It is the most important thing you could do for your guitar journey after 1) buying a guitar, and 2) joining TAC. Now, add 3) Fretboard Wizard, and have a much better understanding of how to utilize 1 and 2.

Hey Barry, I think owning a second guitar is a great idea. But you need to have a lot more idea of what you want and what you’re looking at. @CharlieStrings has given you some very good advise. What I will add, is do what he did and find out about the guitars you are looking at. Then, go into a guitar shop and try some guitars. Even if you don’t find a Yamaha 700 you can still get an idea of what it’s like to play a dreadnought. Personally, I don’t own a dreadnought. But instead of trying one out, I bought one. Then, I was stuck with a guitar I didn’t like. I ended up giving it away. Now I know not to buy a dreadnought. But other people love their dreadnoughts. So the only right answer is you need to find out what you like. A lot of online stores give you a time period where you can try the guitar. Usually 90 days. Then you can send it back and try another one until you find something you like. That way, there are plenty of open box guitars for others to buy at a discount.

@AttyTJ uses PreSonus. You might ask him about some of the issues. He uses a Mac. You haven’t said if you use Mac or PC. It makes a difference.

MemberMay 4, 2021 at 2:05 pm in reply to: Should I stay with the Martin strings or should I do something else? For me, the most important thing about the strings is the tension. I go with extra lights on all my guitars. That makes them flexible. After that, it’s a matter of what strings give the tone you like. I like Martin strings. I have never tried Santa Cruz because I won’t pay that much, especially when I can find strings I like for way less money.
The most flexible I have ever found that also have good tone are the Martin Silk & Steel. Those are my favorite strings.

This is exactly the right place @Himleyn. Thanks for posting your question. If you have anymore questions as you go through the Fretboard Wizard Course, please post them. Let us know if you need any help understanding the major minor chords and scale degrees. I actually love explaining music theory stuff.

Good job, Carl1909. That means a lot. The more different chords you can grab, the better you get at learning new chords and even grabbing chords you already know. Thanks for posting.

That’s excellent John. I’ll have to check out the fretting hand toolbox. Thanks for posting.

First, thanks for posting. This is a great achievement and gives many of us inspiration as some have already said.
Second, I wasn’t interested in the Song Vault because of the songs themselves, but as a vehicle to improvement. I can see in your flat picking during VOM performances that learning these songs has really helped with your technique.
I have made it through all the “Starter” fingerpicking songs and have started on the “Easy” fingerpicking songs. And even just that much has led to improvement in my fingerpicking. And I totally agree with the repetition vs memorizing. I have not tried to memorize a single song, but the repetition seems to take care of it just fine. Like you, I can play the songs from memory and in order. But it’s way fewer songs than you have done, but I like seeing your example.
Anyway, congratulations on a terrific milestone in your guitar journey.

Excellent job, David. I think you started out very good, but you have clearly improved. This is a very polished performance and is worthy of a paying gig.
Right off the bat, I was impressed by the varied strumming. You have done a great job of creating a feeling through your rhythm. You have created wonderful space.
But then the vocals came in. Wow, Again, you started off doing very well. But now, I see real improvement. Your singing in this song is dead on and the effects are dialed in perfectly.
Definitely worth listening to. Thanks for posting.

Well, I’m sorry to hear this Michelle.
Let’s start with what your husband said, I don’t think he said what he meant. I think he misses spending time with you and didn’t say it. That’s too bad, that he thinks he has to talk you into something instead of being honest with you.
Second, it’s not balance if you didn’t think of it and want it. It’s coercion, not the same thing. That sad part is, you will slow down naturally, and that’s how you will find your balance. But being forced to his choice of R&R retirement (doing nothing while I die) won’t help you find balance.
That’s my 2 cents. I hope I haven’t offended you.

Yeah, no question, we need compromise to have peace. Speaking of that, I just love @Maydog ‘s advice. I, too, have been giving up the VOMs more often because my wife likes spending time with me. And that’s way cool. We don’t quit guitar, we just change our schedule a bit. At times, I spend more time on guitar. At other times, I spend less time on guitar. That’s not a bad thing.
I know you will continue to play guitar and make advancement and entertain us with your songs.
