Memorization is hard for me too – there are so many things I need to keep in my brain’s rolodex that finding a spot to store music is indeed a challenge. So what I focus on is hearing the music. Being able to hum it to myself without playing .. then when I need to recall it, my ear tells me when I hit the wrong note. My fingers start to move without having to think about where to go next. It takes a really long time and I am not sure I will ever have anything fully committed to “memory” but I do get closer every time I practice a song.

Hang in there Marty… the more I am on the forums, the more I am thinking that part of the problem is the lack of speed in the site. Once that is resolved, then some of the other concerns we have can be looked at.

Thank you. I have a little (undiagnosed but I know) ADD .. it is hard for me to focus on a singular task for any length of time. So finding a way to do this and actually work the lesson was something I had to learn. Once I got used to the routine, I found that it was easier to have day where I am really dialed in and I can play for extended periods.
