Playing and singing are difficult to do (who woulda thunk), but my suggestion is to try and play a song that’s lyrics follow the tune. Something simple, like happy birthday or twinkle twinkle little star to get started. There are some basic songs that are a little more advanced that still have the lyrics follow the rhythm. The other thing is to really know how to play the song before putting vocals to it. Also, know your vocals inside and out so that you don’t have to think about them when playing and singing.

The great thing about guitar and strings are the many choices we have. I have an arsenal of all different types of strings to try out. It’s so much fun finding the one that sings with a particular guitar.

Spend as much time as needed on the lessons in the 30 days to play. It’s a great introduction, but a word of caution. We’re not shooting for perfection, just understanding of the concept. Shoot for improvement and understanding. Also, you can mark something complete and move forward. You always have the option of revisiting a previous lesson. I did that several times while taking the 30 days to play. Don’t get bogged down by a lesson. Move forward and you’ll be surprised later to find something previously taught comes more easily when you revisit it. Have fun!
