Tony’s Acoustic Challenge – The New Way to Learn Guitar Family Forums Play for Us! Autumn Leaves – an original track in Open G

  • Autumn Leaves – an original track in Open G

At the last 90 Day Party I committed to posting a track a month on this forum so I’ve just made it for November (I said flat-picked but hey… at least I got something recorded!).

I really got into Open G last week with the daily challenges and as I had the guitar set to that tuning and couldn’t be bothered to set back to standard every day I started jamming about and came up with this little tune which reminds me of kicking about through the leaves as we walk our dogs each evening. Apart from the odd fluff I think it sounds pretty groovy but it could possibly do with a bit of lead over the top…. anyone? 🤘😎🎸

@Moonhare Excellent original; great fingerpicking and percussives. Very impressive, and the drop D sounded great. I wish I had 1/2 the talent you have as a newer player of the accoustic! Keep on plunking!!

Thanks so much @Loraine . To be honest it’s my flat picking that really shows what a beginner I am so I will try to post one of those at the end of December. Finger style is more in my comfort zone because that’s what I used to do when I was a teenager (before I gave up for 40 years!).

Thanks. Those alternate tunings are just a rabbit hole for mucking around with.

Very creative and lively track, Moonhare. Hope to get there to play with you at this level someday soon.

Thanks so much. To be honest I wouldn’t have got even close to this when I started TAC in April. Although I naturally lean towards finger style I’d never dabbled with alternate tunings or percussive stuff so I just keep on doing the 10 mins a day minimum and it really works.

That was a fantastic original instrumental @Moonhare 😱👏👏👏 really fantastic🤩👍👍 You played that open G tuning like you’ve been doing it all your life😎 That guy in the green shirt wasn’t bad either(lol)🤣 A beautiful arrangement, and an equally fantastic video👍 You are journeying well my friend! Please don’t stop.

Hey @Moonhare , I was just jamming with you – doing some improvs over your track using G major pentatonic, G major scale across all the strings and G major scale on the G and hi E strings (in standard tuning). I have a guitar in open G tuning, I’m going to give that a try as well😎 Thanks for the fun!

Yes there’s no reason to be in Open G to jam along and I’m glad it worked out. And thanks for your really encouraging comments previously as well. I’ve started learning an Irish flat-picked tune called Con Casey’s Jig and I can tell you it has brought me back to earth with a dramatic thump! But hey, if you don’t try stuff you can’t play you never get better.
