  • Blues Shuffle problems

Posted by P2H on June 17, 2021 at 7:15 am

Can anyone make suggestions to help me with the Blues shuffle. I continue to hit the wrong chords. Ive been trying to master this for two weeks but can’t move on because of my inability to strike only the correct strings. Thanks in advance

Hi @P2H , One thing that I can say is to try doing it slowly – as slow as you need to go in order to play the correct strings. Try doing the pattern using the A & lo E strings only. Try doing it on your own, without the video. Once you have it down on those 2 strings, then try adding in the other sets of strings – still doing it slowly. Once you fell confident that you can do it, then try increasing speed – a little bit at a time.

If you still have trouble doing it, and it’s frustrating you, then just move on – you can come back to it at some other time when you feel like trying it again👍 The point here is to have fun – not frustration – keep that in mind when you run into other stumbling blocks in your journey.

Hi @P2H I feel your frustration. I agree with @Bill_Brown to slow it way down and practice it. Another thought is to mark it complete and move onto something else for the time being, and then return to the blues shuffle at a later time. Often when Iโ€™m not making progress I do this, and itโ€™s amazing that I can pick it up later and do better. Also, the purpose is not to master something. It is to build a practice routine and make advancements in skills as we move forward.

Couldn’t agree more. Sometimes the answer is to leave it alone. It’s amazing how it comes to you when you try later. Your brain needs time to work things out too, it’s not just a physical pursuit.

I also agree with the other suggestions about slowing down.

Another thing to do is to break it down. Just go over the part where you’re struggling, starting a measure or two ahead of the trouble spot. Work on that for a few (3-5) minutes and leave it be until your next practice session. Amazing how that works too!

Let us know how it works out.

Go slow, then go slower ๐Ÿ˜‰ If you are having reach problems too, then move the whole pattern a couple frets closer to the bridge.

    Be patient with yourself.
