Does YouTube think I sound like Jimmy Page?
Posted by Moonhare on November 2, 2021 at 4:42 pmHaha. I actually got a copyright claim on my Play For Us posting of Rain Song by Led Zepellin which I will take as a compliment. It must be close enough for the algorithm to recognise the song at least even if my claim of sounding like Jimmy Page is probably a bit of a stretch! Here’s to more breaches of copyright down the road. Rock n Roll🤟😎🎸 Darren (Moonhare)

Hi there @Bill_Brown . It’s actually the one I posted on the Play For Us forum a couple of weeks ago which you’ll already have heard so I didn’t bother linking it here but if someone stumbles on this thread and wants to hear it here is the link.

Yeah, something’s wrong with this @Moonhare . That absolutely is not a copyright infringement. IF you were making money from this video THEN it would be a copyright infringement. If you posted a song from an album that would be a copyright infringement if the owners of the music pursued it. Obviously, most music owners do not pursue that type of copyright infringement. Anyone who is making money from their YouTube channel can’t post more than 2 seconds of a copyrighted song. Perhaps the problem was that you labeled it “Rain Song” without adding the it was a cover? I don’t understand what happened, but again, this should not be a copyright infringement.
P.S. I, like @Bill_Brown , would also like to hear this little recording.

Hi there @MikeGaurnier . Thankfully there is no real issue here. It’s
been flagged as a copyright claim because I’m playing someone else’s
song so in the unlikely event that I got tens of thousands of views and
made money out of the video that would go to the copyright holder.
There’s no penalty against me for posting a cover version. The only
other time I had this was on a video I did exploring the original master
tapes of Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield and breaking it down into the
separate instruments. Funnily enough Mike Oldfield was the reason I
first picked up an acoustic guitar at the age of 14.-
Ok, I see what you are saying @Moonhare . They are “going on record” that this is technically a copyright infringement.
Anyway, you did a very good job on this recording. I really like it. Thanks for sharing.

Just a quick FYI @MikeGaurnier – there doesn’t need to be any money made or even the INTENT to make money for a copyright violation. That’s a common belief but mistaken. Unfortunately (or not) I know far more about this than I probably should. Don’t ask me how.
-
Thanks @SoCal_Ian for clarifying that. I was under that mistaken belief. Oh, and by the by, I do have an inkling about why you know a lot about this, but I won’t let the cat out of the bag. 😁

Hahaha! Thanks @MikeGaurnier and yes, that’s a common misconception. The short story is you have the “violation” (the breaking of the law) and then you also have a penalty (the price to pay for the violation). Most holders of copyrights (as is the case here) know there’s no money made but if there is then the holder is likely entitled to it.

Thanks. I figured if the YouTube auto copyright monitor knows it’s Rain Song then I must have played it well enough!

really nice cover. Inspires me to try this song, which is a favorite of mine.

@markvguitar Thanks man. I would recommend checking out Angela Petrilli’s YouTube tutorial because it will go through the tuning you need for this one. Jimmy loved his alternate tunings!

Very nice cover Darren! @Moonhare And yes, you do sound a bit like Jimmy P! Very pleasant to listen to, well done!

Well one day in an alternate universe (tuning?) perhaps!

To be honest @moonhare , youtube didn’t have to go far because you listed the song title and artist in your title. When I did that 100-day challenge I stopped mentioning or including the name of what I was playing because I was constantly being dinged for copyright infringement. I guess if they “catch” you too many times, they can revoke your privileges on the site. Big Brother is watching!😉
By the way, LOVED your cover!👍😎

Thanks. Yes I imagine after 100 songs you’ve had your fair share of tags!

This isn’t so much YouTube but the holders of Copyrights and the use of overly broad filter software. Not saying the performance wasn’t great but rather that copyright holders are losing their minds when it comes to enforcement and YT.
-
To be honest it’s no big deal as they only get money from people who make money out of YouTube and that ain’t me!

Very nicely done Darren. I rarely listen to any thing someone does more than once. However, I listened to yours three times. Enjoyed listening and watching you perform it that much!
