  • electric guitar players here?

Posted by Benjamn on June 17, 2021 at 4:51 pm

Hello, Long time beginner here! I started playing back in 2005 while rehabbing from my first back surgery but soon found myself in that same rut of playing/butchering the same cool riffs over and over.

I play electric guitar though and I just came across Tony’s program last night and here we are! Music has always been quite important to me and I just want to learn how to play all music on my guitar.

I’m starting with the 30 day challenge and with any luck this starts to sink into my brain finally!

Hi Ben ( @[email protected] ) Welcome to TAC👏👏 You made a great choice👍 Everything you learn here is transferable to an electric guitar. There are a lot of members that have electric guitars in their “guitarsenal”😎 It wouldn’t hurt to get an acoustic, but it’s not a requirement.

That’s great to hear Bill. I do plan on getting an acoustic when my wallet allows lol. A good solid foundation to build on is what I am hoping for.

Welcome @Ben R. This is a great place, in fact the best place, to get a solid foundation on the guitar, that is, anything with six strings and tuned EADGBE. 🤣 Well, or you could tune it DADGAD, or open G or open C, ok, forget it. 😅 Obviously, electrics qualify.

I just wanted to mention your unique handle, or “nickname”. The system doesn’t recognize the space, so you are not getting notified by the @Ben but someone else does. You should remove the space or put in an underscore or a hyphen. That way you will get notifications when we type the @ symbol followed by your “nickname”.

The most important advice I can give you is Have Fun!

    Hey Ben,

It looks like you put in your email address for your unique “nickname”. The system can’t use any symbols but underscore and hyphen as far as I know. It was supposed to recognize the period symbol, but it didn’t work at the beginning. I don’t know if they ever fixed that. But you could do Ben_R if that is available, or BenR or Benroh or whatever seems like a good handle that’s both short and unique.

Welcome Ben! Yes, lots of us also play or played electric. Nothing wrong with that. Lots of commonality in the learning so not an issue. At some point after that they morph into very different instruments in sound and play but TAC will set you up with a great foundation for learning the guitar…of any sort.

The main things are that you play daily and to enjoy the journey!

Hey welcome I am a true beginner, I have a squire strat and a Yamaha red label ooo.

I have made tremendous progress with TAC. I personally don’t care acoustic or electric love them both. Just use what makes you happy.

    Enjoy it.

My sentiments exactly Mark. I will eventually buy an acoustic! Did you start with the 30 day to play program?

    Good luck in your journey!

Howdy Ben. I’m going the other way. I’ve been strictly acoustic and just bought my first electric setup. (A PRS SE and a Positive Grid Spark amp).

I think you will find everything here translates well between acoustic and electric. Different tones, but complementary skill sets. Enjoy the journey.
