First Video – hopefully I did everything correctly
Posted by Cadgirl on March 1, 2022 at 8:00 amMy song for you today is Alice’s Restaurant. Since the song is over 18 minutes long, I reduced it to playing the intro and 1st verse. I hope everyone likes it.

Thank you very much. This is actually my warm up song. Gets the fingers moving 🙂

@cadgirl – Yay! Great big wins in posting your first video, and you did a fantastic job on the song. You’re picking and transitions were great and a good speed for the song. Good going! Can’t wait for the next one.

Thank you very much. I think I can manage 1 a month. I was watching a video on a kid that made a video of his improvement every 6 months. He said that by posting the video it actually made him better because he wanted it to be it’s best when it went up. It made sense to me, so that will be my new plan. 🙂

Thanks @Jonathandavid , it was really hard for me to sit down and record myself. But, it’s one step toward taking guitar playing seriously.

Very nice. Time for a new guitar. After all “You can get anything you want.”

@David_Leo. Thank you, I would be looking at a new guitar but I just bought the one I’m playing. It’s a Taylor 812ce. Love it. So glad I traded in my huge Martin to get it.

That was an awesome performance Cadgirl! I recognized it right away. Fun song to hear again. This is a great first video post.

Thanks @stevieblues ,It was a song I could play when I was in my 20s. Then I quit playing for some 40 years and figured I would remember something when I bought a guitar. I really was surprised how much I forgot, It was as if my mind turned to mush. I found the finger pick tab on a website and I was determined I was going to play that dang song again if it killed me. I sat for hours playing it over again and again till I could do it in my sleep. 😉

fantastic !
That song always takes me back to Thanksgiving growing up. The local radio station would play the whole thing (“with feelin”) on that day.
How do you like your thumb pick ? I am have yet to use one but I am thinking about it now that I have actually started using a pick for strumming a few tunes.
-
Thanks @TMutter The song is a classic.
I love using a thumb pick. Saves my thumb nail and my thumb. I just started using a regular pick for strum songs. I had a hard time getting used to flat pick. But, now….. I always have both type picks in my jeans pocket. 🙂

Cadgirl, Congratulations on your first posting! Enjoyed your finger picking!!

Thank you @Tom000-18 . I was listening to a video of a kid that recorded his first 6 years at intervals of every 6 months. He said what really helped him get better was when he started posting his music. I must have recorded this song 40 times before I got one that didn’t have a lot of mistakes in it that I would post. Also even thou, i’m not playing in front of anyone. It feels like the uneasiness of having others hear me isn’t as great. Thanks again.

I can totally relate to trying to get a recording you feel is worth posting. You did! Love this forum because it is so supportive. Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Congratulations @Cadgirl You have very nimble fingers- excellent job with the finger-picking! I think posting does and will motivate you! ✌🏼👍🏼😎

Thanks @Marisa , I like to finger pick the most. I’m still a lousy strummer. But, this year i’m getting out of my comfort zone and play songs that I normally wouldn’t. And I’m going to start dappling with putting music together. I have to sit down and work on the lick that takes you out of the song. I have the tabs for it, but it doesn’t sound like I remember. I can hear it in my head, now I have to put it on paper. ta ta da da da da da, ta ta ta…. da da da………. 🙂
