  • I finally lost my VOM cherry!

    Posted by Moonhare on February 18, 2022 at 1:14 am

    I think this counts as a BIG small win for me 🎉. I played my first song at a Virtual Open Mic last night at the beautifully chilled out Scones VOM. This was one of my main goals for the penultimate 90 day progress party of my first year at TAC. It couldn’t really have been a better evening. So much great music and all different styles and I think we had 18 people in at one point. The only thing that went wrong for me was not my playing, but I forgot to hit record so I can’t post it. But perhaps I’ll just do a Play For Us version of The Tin Can Blues, a song that I wrote specifically for this first Scones performance.

    Thanks to (among others) @mikegaurnier @Beatrice @Daniel_Morin @Marty69 @carol-3m-stillhand @johnnydarko @AttyTJ @dirk_r @socal_ian @marquita and @brian_p for putting me at ease and making me feel most welcome. I will definitely be going to more of these. “It’s all happening!” 🤟😎🎸

    Nice follow through on your 90 days. And I bet you had fun once you got over your zoom fright.

      My trick is to just forget anything other than you and your instrument.

    It was great seeing you live @Moonhare Please record your song! It was great! Really enjoyed it. I don’t know if mine was recorded. Like you, I too get the jidders before I play. 😊🧙‍♂️😎

      It was great to finally ‘meet’ you too Marty. Can’t say how much I value your input. I really had a blast. Even though I was playing it pretty tongue in cheek, it genuinely was the first time I tried to play a blues on guitar so I was happy with that first attempt.

    Does anyone know where we can get a copy of our recording on

    Scones for Feb. 17, 2022? 😊🧙‍♂️😎

      Hey @Marty69 ;

      There were almost no recordings. When I first came on someone recorded. We now record ourselves. So you would know if you had hit the record button. I’m sorry if no one prompted you to record if you wanted. But that’s how it’s being done now.

    Sorry I missed your debut @Moonhare . I try to join into Scones when I can, but I’m still technically at work, and damned if that doesn’t get in the way sometimes – LOL. Anyway, I’m sure you did splendidly, as always. Great job getting over that fear hump. Scones has such a great atmosphere, and it’s much smaller than other VOMs, so it is less intimidating.

    As I announced, shortly after I played, @moonhare, I had PT to get to, but I can’t wait to hear your eventual recording post. Congratulations on your first outing into the

    VOM’s. Warning, as you do more, they get more and more addictive, so GO FOR IT!!

    That was a truly delightful song, Darren ( @Moonhare ), I am so glad I was there to hear it. It would be great if you recorded it and shared it on the forum. It was so clever and well played. What a great example of song writing. Thanks for sharing that with us.

      I had fun writing it with Scones in mind. It also taught me how to play a blues, my first try at that on guitar even though I have played blues on keys before. Thank you for all your support. It has meant a great deal to me to feel that there are friends out there who we can all rely on for help.
