Recovering from the Setback
A few weeks ago I had posted about dealing with tendonitis in my fretting wrist. My doctor told me I could not bend my wrist for 4-6 weeks due to inflamation, I was quite upset that I could not continue my lessons and practice. Fortunately, some fellow TAC members offered up some ideas that I have pursued! These were really helpful! Thanks!
My reduction in practice started the beginning of banjo week, which ended up being most fortuitous, as we were playing in open G. I could not really fret notes and chords due to pain so I took Tony’s “Going with the Roll” lesson and modified it to fret just the middle D string. Starting at fret 5, the G note and descending down to an open D, using the picking technique Tony taught in this lesson. My fingerpicking is not great, something I’m working on, and this practice has really helped me! Actually, try playing this note progression, it’s a bit Beatlesque I think! My wife commented on how nice it sounded😀 (note that I have been “auditing” the daily lessons so I’ll have to return and complete them)
Additionally, I’m starting the Slide Guitar 101 course sooner than expected, but that’s great as I always wanted to learn slide. I bought a slide and have been practicing a bit in open G. Looking forward this this course!
It’s been three weeks since the diagnosis so I still need to practice with care on a limited basis although the wrist is getting better.
So basically what I wanted to share is that bad news turned into good news, a small win!
