Posted by Bill_Brown on October 27, 2021 at 11:03 amMy #smallwin today was having the lightbulbs💡💡 come on in my head 🤩by putting my Fret Wiz knowledge to work on today’s Dm scale🤔. I knew that I could play the scale horizontally on any of the D strings, while using either of the other D strings as a drone – if I wanted a drone😎. And, once I knew the individual notes of the scale, I knew I could play them on any string and still be playing a Dm scale – horizontally or vertically😱 just about anywhere on the fretboard👍💡👍

Great #smallwin Bill_Brown! I wish my light bulbs would turn on. It sounds like you have a good understanding of the Dm scale. Enjoy your new scale, and keep on playing!

Thanks @stevieblues , it took some time and concentration🤔 before darkness was turned to light(lol)💡😱

Great wins @Bill_Brown ! I’m with @stevieblues , my lightbulbs haven’t turned on – I think they’re burned out sometimes.

I’m retired @Loraine , so I have a lot of time to think about this kind of stuff. Someday things will “click”🤩👍 for you, I’m certain💡

Well you are way beyond me there but congrats. I just love those moments in your life when you suddenly realize you have the answer and you surprise yourself. Sounds like one of those. They haven’t released the next Fretboard Wizard date yet and I wasn’t keen on paying for it when I enrolled in case I didn’t get on with TAC, but will definitively do that when it comes back on stream.
-
Thanks @Moonhare , I don’t know why TAC hasn’t announced anything about an upcoming enrollment for FW, other than maybe it has something to do with the “new format” or maybe they’re adding some new content? The cool thing about the FW course is that once you buy it, it’s yours FOREVER. I’ve been through the entire course twice now and through certain segments multiple times. Things may not click the first time and I’ve found that you could miss little tidbits that could get things going inside your head when going through the course again. Also, what Tony teaches (and the way he teaches) makes it a lot easier to follow others on the web when they’re talking theory. Anyways, I think you’ll find that the $$ spent on the FW course is well worth it. Have a great weekend my friend!

Boy, do I agree with @Bill_Brown when he says the FW course is worth the $$, @Moonhare . It used to be that you could sign up and take the course anytime you wanted. But they have had a lot going on with the platform change. And they have been working on a bunch of new things. It seems slow to us, but these things take time.
Anyway, the FW course seemed to open my eyes of understanding on some basic level. I had take music theory before that and already knew most of the information. So I learned very little from the course. But somehow, my understanding grew tremendously. Tony was able to connect the dots for me. After that, my theory knowledge and understanding just kept growing without much effort. It is very easy for me to look back and see that it was the FW course that led to my growth as a guitarist and a musician. And I want to highlight how it allowed me to start learning from other sources and videos when they just seemed like Greek before.

Congratulations @Bill_Brown . The funny thing, is. it just isn’t that difficult once you “see” it and you wonder why you didn’t “get it” earlier. But the really important thing to me is that you put the new found understanding to work having fun on the guitar. That’s what it’s all about.

Thanks @MikeGaurnier , I feel a little silly now about my original post. I just caught the AT show on Thursday afternoon where Tony let the horizontal scale out of the bag so to speak. So I can imagine that some people could think that I’m a little full of myself. But I really did wake up Wednesday morning and when I saw the challenge video, I knew right away that I could play that scale horizontally on any of the D strings, and from there realized I could play the scale (from a different starting point) on any of the other strings, because I knew the single notes of the scale.
-
No need to feel silly @Bill_Brown . If it was obvious, we’d all “get it” , that is all of it, right from the start. There is nothing on the guitar that is complicated once you “get it”, but still we didn’t get it for a while.
The best insights are the ones you find on your own. This was a great light bulb moment and I think you should feel good about it and it is/was definitely worthy of a small win posting.
