Small Win… NGD
Posted by Marty75 on February 2, 2023 at 11:28 amI just pulled the handle on a “Recording king ROS-06-FE3” 12 fret guitar. I’ve always wanted a 12 fret guitar. The price was right. Now to sneak it past the wife. LOL 😊🧙♂️😎
(Note: I tried to post a photo of my new guitar but this “New TAC” Format doesn’t let me. Another reason people are leaving)

Congratulations (condolences if your wife finds out like mine did after seeing the recent credit card statement). I just remind her there are way worse vices!
Enjoy your new baby!

Yes there are worse vices. I used to keep buying cars, now it’s just guitars 🙂

I was able to view your new one with the link. Beautiful. Look forward to hearing it when you play for us.

I see the pic too @Marty69 . Very cool. 12 fret is an excellent addition to the guitarsenal. Do you have it yet or are you obsessively tracking every hour or so? hehe.
You really think people leave because they cant post a pic? I know why I am here. I wanna learn to play guitar. I wanna learn it inside out and upside down, backwards and forwards and everything between the lines. Admittedly I may be the odd duck.

Thank you @jumpinjeff Funny, the photo of the guitar doesn’t show up on my posting. Yes, the lessons are gr8 but member socialization in the Forum sucks. Just my 2 cents. 😖🧙♂️😎

No problem opening the picture. Beautiful guitar, congratulations!

Thank you @John_Hall We will see how she sounds when I get her. 😊🧙♂️😎

I had to download the photo from your post @Marty69 , a couple of extra steps compared to the “Old Forums”, but I saw her none the less. She looks beautiful😘🎸 Is that rosewood back & sides?🤔 I bet it’ll sound awesome🤩 can’t wait to hear her.
Happy NGD Marty🍾🥂🎉

@Bill_Brown It said “Solid Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides” Can’t wait to get my hands on her. 😊🧙♂️ 😎

Update: My Recording King is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday, Feb. 07 by 7:00 P.M..
I’ve sent @Tpolecastro an email asking what Santa Cruz string to use on the Recording King ROS-06 Low Tension or Med Tension? 🙄🧙♂️😎

See @Marty69 , now you are entering my guitar world. This is an under $500 guitar, but it’s a very good guitar. And you have the Martin CEO7 to compare it to. I’ll be interested in what you think about your “cheap” guitar.
Oh, and then there’s the whole short neck thing. I love my 12 fret guitars. They are simply more comfortable. At least to me. One of them is a full body and is therefore limiting when I try to play barre chords up the neck or play solos up the neck, but the other one is a cutaway and is my go to guitar. I try not to make it my favorite, but it is the one I pick up most of the time.
Let us know what you think. Post a video. I look forward to seeing/hearing you play it and your review.

@Marty69 , I use extra lights on all my guitars, 10 – 47 usually, but the silk and steels or silk and phosphors come in 11 – 47. I mostly use Martin strings, though my 12 string is GHS because Martin doesn’t make a silk and whatever set for 12 string. Those are the “warmest”, the silk and whatever, and I focus on finger picking. Now, people want to use a pick to get stronger sound, so naturally, they use heavier strings. My silk and phosphur are still too loud to me when I use a pick. I just don’t like it.
And of course, part of the reason, or I should say the original reason as I could probably play heavier strings now, is for my finger comfort. I’m old as you well know. 😂MG 😀

@N-lightMike what I was looking for was the strings “Pull” on the bridge. A thin gage or “Low tension” string doesn’t put that much pull on it. My CEO-7 uses Low tension strings. The Recording Kings bridge sit further back from the sound hole. 😊🧙♂️😎
-
Oh, ok. I was unaware of any special requirements for 12 fret guitars. I know they get more “boom” due to the bridge being farther back, but I didn’t know this caused any issue with string tension.
Please let me know if you find out any info I should know about my own 12 fret guitars. I would appreciate it, @Marty72

Hey @Marty72 , I put a set of SC low tension strings on my 000-15m and then couldn’t wait for them to wear out so I could go back to the Martin strings. Now, after a couple of months playing, I’ve gotten used to them (they are thick strings). They do have good sound and volume, but they’re hard to bend notes with, but that shouldn’t hamper your style of playing.
-
Hey @Bill_Brown I’ve tried lot of strings recommended by Tony P but I always return to my Santa Cruz strings. I just love the sound I get out of them. I just put a new set of SC Low Tension strings on my CEO-7 yesterday. We will see how they sound on my 12 string Martin and a set on my new Recording King 12 fret. 😊🧙♂️😎

Happy NGD @Marty72 ! She is a beauty indeed! For what it’s worth I have a 12 fret Breedlove and use D’Addario – Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings – EJ16-3D; gauges 12-53. They provide excellent tone IMO. Let us know where you eventually land. Looking forward to seeing it in action!

Thank you @AttyTJ I just played her for the first time this morning and… She’s a keeper. She sounds good with the strings she has and they look new. I don’t know what they are. She looks great for a used guitar with no scratches or dings that I can see. May lower the action a bit when I change string in the future. 😊🧙♂️😎

I never do that, unless one tells me what to call it. But good luck. A Marty name for an RK, above my pay grade, for sure.
-
You’ll be just fine with a set of 12s. The bridge is further from the sound hole because you lose 2 frets and still need to keep your scale length.
-
Yes I know, that’s why I am using Low Tension strings. 😊🧙♂️😎
