Space Oddity (Practice version)
Posted by Loraine on July 18, 2021 at 4:49 pmI’ve always said I would share the good with the bad. Here is my flawed version practice at the Saturday VOM 17 Jul 2021. Not sure why the volume so loud on it. I didn’t have the guitar plugged in, but it did have newer strings on it. Maybe that is why is sounds so loud to me.

This is a better taping. I slowed it down. Repeated one phrase too many times towards end, but overall very pleased with this.

Thanks for playing at the VOM @Loraine . And thanks for posting your performance. It is obvious you are improving. I also appreciate the second video. It demonstrates very clearly how much better the audio is when we record ourselves directly instead of using Zoom.
As far as rotating your wrist instead of bending at the elbow; it is very true that will make your strumming better. But it is also true that you will get better at using the wrist more as time goes by. Right now, you are doing what you can and that’s the most important thing. Regular practice does indeed lead to improvement. Keep up the good work.

Im teaching myself how to strum too. Starting to crest the hump now…
Let me share a tip. I see most of your strum come from elbow movement instead of wrist movement. Your elbow should t really open and close much.
Try to roll your wrist back and forth for most of the strum movement. Imagine a feather is stuck to honey on your pinky and your trying to shake it off.

Nice job! Your improving on consistency in strumming and transitions.

@Loraine Its been a long time since ive had the opportunity to listen to you play. I know its way before new Format of TAC. Your Stumming has become more relaxed and fluid and you are playing with Bar chords to boot… Congratulations! Cheers🎸

Your chords are nice and clear, Lorraine and i love those opening chords to Space Oddity. You can tell you like the chords as well as you have that meditative in-to-it look on your face.

That look was me trying to focus and not totally screw it up – haha. Seriously though, I do love this song and yes, the opening is great. When I’m in the zone and able to play it at a little faster speed and be in a zone strumming it, it’s a lot of fun. I’m on a week or two break from playing it, because all of a sudden I started having problems strumming it. My hands weren’t cooperating and it became very choppy. Thanks for your kind words @Jonathandavid .

Great song! I loved the variety of chords in it and the strumming pattern, you’re definitely past the 4-chords-rut Tony talked about on this Tuesday. Tackling it like a boss 😎 I’m super impressed by the F and Fm chords and how your strumming is so consistent throughout the whole seven minutes! 🔥
