Saturday, March 27th, 6-8 pm Mountain Time
(5pm PT / 6pm MT / 7pm CT / 8pm ET).@Guitar Sherpa David and @BobGarrity1 are hosting SNL week #4! The Zoom link and meeting ID are posted below.
All TAC-ers are welcome. General open mic rules apply. Attendees do not have to perform! You are welcome to simply watch and participate as a supportive virtual audience member. All TAC-ers are encouraged to enrich your experience and our Community by sharing your music with us LIVE.
Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the official start time, for sound checks and socializing.
SNL format: We will have early (or late) slots for first- or second-timers, so please type a request into the chat or let the host know when you arrive and unmute yourself. Regulars will be invited to request slots when newer folks have been accommodated. If there are more requests than slots, the Host will assign slots based on recent activity, phase of the moon, reverse alphabetical order, or whatever criteria comes to mind. So far there has not been a need to draw straws, but that day may come.
This is not a contest of any sort. It is an opportunity for guitarists of all experience levels to perform in front of a group that: a) has been where you are, b) wants to encourage you, and c) wants to witness and enjoy your progress. You can choose to play anything that gives you pleasure and represents where you are as a guitarist. This could be a recent TAC exercise, something from the song vault, a favorite cover, or an original song we have never heard. The point is to connect and get the experience of playing in front of an audience that understands what you are trying to do and wants you to succeed. Sounds pretty safe, because it is. If you struggle and keep going, you will be amazed at how much this crowd will support and applaud your effort and fortitude.
TAC SNL THEME: The hosts have chosen a theme for week 4: HATS! Wear (or show) a hat for fun. Bonus points if it has some relation to the song you perform, but that’s not necessary. I would like to ask that each performer prepare a simple introduction that tells us something about their hat and the song they are going to play. Ideally that would include a title and identity of the songwriter (if known), and a tidbit about how or why you have chosen it. We are not looking for a Wikipedia page here. In fact, I would like you to think of this as an elevator pitch, the kind of communication that would happen between an entrepreneur short on cash and a potential investor limited by the time it takes to ride a few floors in an elevator. Short, sweet and packed with just the most important stuff is the goal. Here’s hoping a little preparation will make this fun and enhance the evening. Those of you who pick a song as your turn comes up are on your own.
If you wish to perform. please watch this video for optimal Zoom settings to get your best quality sound through Zoom when performing.
Hope to see you on Saturday Nite Live.
