  • Two years into TAC – “Martlesham Wilds”

I just posted this song but I cannot see it in the forum so I’m hoping I haven’t done this twice! As it has been two years since I started learning to play with TAC I thought I should post something new. This is a first attempt one take wonder and there are a few fluffs because I’m trying to play lead (sometimes 2 leads!) and rhythm all at once. This piece is actually meant for a full band and I will be recording a version of it with multiple instruments to raise funds for a coastal rewilding project here in the East of England. But you get to hear the tatty version first! You lucky, lucky people…..

@Moonhare Darren Congratulations on your 2nd TACiversary!

The performance was outstanding. For not having guitar experience before TAC, I’m just in awe of your playing ability. I’d like to see more of you in the forums, but I gather you’re quite busy with gigs and keyboards too.

Thanks a lot. I have had a busy year but have been keeping up with my daily challenges and enjoying the new lessons. But I’ll try to get back into the forums now.

Wow! – That is really good there @Moonshare. Sounded great – smooth and clean with no miss steps (at least none that I could discern🙂). Was not really familiar with this tune, but it will now be added to my list of songs to learn thanks to your great performance.

Just 2 years into TAC? Looks like your were probably well on your way prior to TAC.

    Great job.

Thanks @chucks – I am a piano and keyboard player but apart from a few cowboy chords I’ve just worked the course from a complete beginner. Still a long way to go but pleased with progress so far.

@Moonhare , great to see a post from you, it’s been a while. A fantastic performance my friend – what tuning are you using? Oh, and by the way, happy 2nd TACiversary🎂🍾🥂 The Suffolk Wildlife Trust seems to be a worthwhile organization with worthy goals. They’re lucky to have your help in this endeavor – best of luck Darren and remember to “break a string”🎸 (lol).

Like that Alt tuning and you’ve performed the piece with flare and interest. It is captivating.

You know I love my ‘Jimmy Page’ tuning. Great for solo guitar. Hope you are keeping well.

@Moonhare Great to have you back. Your TAC fans, myself included, missed you. Clearly, you have been busy learning and putting in practice time. Like this lively tune and appreciate both you timing and dexterity. I believe your keyboard background has been an advantage? You navigate the fretboard effortlessly.

Look forward to hearing the “studio version” and would like to contribute to the cause. Cheers Daren!

SWEET! Very well done! I loved the your right hand technique, strumming, and the rhythms you created. Nice way to use the chords up and down the neck. That had a great sound to it. An audio treat!

Thanks for asking. I’m still at about the same skill level, but I’ve been enjoying playing and gaining a little confidence. I keep reminding myself about focusing on consistency.

That is definitely what is most important. I felt I’d plateaued at the beginning of the year. Lots to deal with at home with a sick dog, but then reviewing some earlier posts realised I was actually still improving, just at a slower pace. I think that is quite natural. Anyway hope you are enjoying it. Drop D has been fun this week and I got a song out of it! Will post this weekend.

Thanks @je4 . The birds are much betters singers than me so that’s why most of my posts are instrumental.

Learning the right way to record acoustic guitar in the studio for when I do this properly but nice to just pop my camera on a tripod and play as well. For a 12 year old camera it does pretty well.

Digging the birdsong vocals (sometimes) in the background. Please include with the full band recording favoring the rehab project.

Yes – I love getting backing singers in!
