  • Year Two TACiversary

Posted by Michelle-PSL on July 31, 2022 at 11:46 am

Well I wrote a thoughtful, long post that somehow went into cyberspace so all I’ll say is this:

Today marks my 2nd TACiversary. Hurray!

    Looking forward to Year Three.

    Fantastic stuff– congratulations!

Where does the time go, huh?

Just like it was yesterday– you were one of the very first ones to welcome a new guy- (that’d be me)- to TAC, about a year and a half ago, with lots of help and encouragement.

I like to think that I’ve been “along-the-same-lines-as-helpful” to others as you were to me– but I admit I have a slightly more tilted-orbit than the rest of the planets😜.

    Anyway, again, congrats!!

@Michelli-PSL , when you started TAC were you an absolute beginner? You really have learned a lot of songs in your 2 years time with TAC.

I was a self-taught player when I was a teen. Was given a guitar and bought a chord book – I think it was pop folk songs of the early 70’s. I remember playing Carol King songs. I told my parents I wanted lessons and was sent to the local music store where some ancient guy (to my 17 year-old eyes) proceeded to try to teach me to read music and play nursery rhyme songs. Ugh – I was outta there! I quit after a month and didn’t pick up the guitar again until June of 2020, at the age of 62, when I was working from home during the first pandemic outbreak. I found TAC a month later.

@Michelle-PSL , you are doing great. Glad you took the step back to enjoy the guitar again. I played as a young adult and then one day the computer was invented and I sold both of my guitars and put my full focus on computers. For some reason I wanted to go back to the guitar and bought one in October 2020 after a long break. I was surprised that the only thing I could really remember was chords. ha ha ha, I appreciate it more now. Truly glad I went back to it. Yes, TAC did help a lot too. Thanks for sharing your story.

that is fantastic!I am way behind you (not even 4 months yet). How do you feel about all you have been exposed to and how much you have learned?

Thanks @Mrfredsporty ! I think the key is having a vision of where you want to be with guitar, and to set short term goals and, even if they are baby steps, keep moving forward on your vision quest (aka guitar journey). Stay positive. Even if you don’t think you’re improving, you are. You muscle memory is always working. Most importantly, never let anyone steal your dreams from you and never ever give up.

Personally, I’ve been singing all my life, so over the last couple of years I learned guitar by learning songs. Now I’m starting to write songs, and I’m just now learning scales, and the notes on the fretboard, and all that “fun” stuff.

Thank you @Philb . I did a second 100 Day Challenge but posted elsewhere. I think I set off the cyber security on TAC because my posts started to go into cyberspace and I just moved on. But I still enjoy the Daily Challenge. 😊
