Guitar Inspiration • Artist #1

Beppe Gambetta

When i discovered Beppe it was a treat of the highest level. A flatpicker, a fingerpicker, a human Swiss Army Knife when it comes to guitar. This artist is one who every time you think you know what they are going to do during a solo or even rhythm guitar you get surprised. Beppe is super fun to listen to and someone who I think you should know for sure!!!

Here are some albums by Beppe to check out:

➜Live at the Teatro Della Corte
➜Round Trip (Beppe Gambetta and Tony Mcmanus
➜Blu di Genova

And here he is with another great, Tony McManus

And here he is playing his arrangement of a classic tune, and telling a great story about Montana

One more for good measure

  1. I saw Gambetta play a show in our little community center about 6 years ago. It was a real treat. We don’t get musicians of his caliber out here in the sticks too often. It was great to hear this full ethnic Italian man absolutely slay straight up American bluegrass.

    Full on flatpicking genius!

  2. Great, now I have to listen to all the music from Beppe Gambetta, Tony Rice, and Norman Blake. so much music, so little time.

  3. Bravo! Very motivating for me. It reminds me that, failure is temporary, quitting is permanent. In order to be at this level of guitar proficiency I have to keep going. Get knocked down 10 times, get up 11! Failure is an event not a person.

  4. Besides His Awesome musicianship…
He just seems to be having the time of his life with his guitar…Well done Beppe…!!
    Thx Tony…!!

  5. It blows my mind how imaginative some players are, and how the guitar seems to be an instrument without limitations whatsoever. Very cool to be exposed to great talent!!

  6. Beppe used to be a regular at the Walnut Valley Music Festival (Winfield KS) when I was attending in the mid to late ’90s. He is a warm friendly person with a great sense of humor. We have an autographed Italian Cook Book he had one year, plus sever CDs. Beppe would regularly walk around and jam at the campfires after the main stages closed. Amazing person and monster talent! What a nice way to start this course.

  7. This is great! I had heard his name but never his playing. Really nice. Great ‘country’ accent in his singing too.

  8. So inspiring and it makes me appreciate trying to learn this awesome instrument even more. Tony and Beppe together in total unison….sweet.

  9. Amazing! The combined session with Tony M. was a magical play of talent and emotion – very moving. Thanks for the treat!

  10. I’m very happy to have discovered Beppe Gambetta! I’m a big fan to Doc Watson so his handsome molly version is amazing.
    Thank’s Tony

  11. Man he’s got some crazy right hand action going there on Handsome Molly! Come to think of it he’s got both hands working it on all the songs. Very nice!

  12. Beppe Gambetta, certainly is an inspiration to all up and coming guitar players and gives us hope that anyone can get to that superb standard of playing.

  13. Thanks for the exposure to such a great player. The first video opened my eyes wide to where an acoustic guitar can go in the right hands. The harmonics that he played, and the sixth string bends were just crazy. The last video showed his speed and accuracy, and the sound of his guitar is sick.

  14. what fun at the end of my struggle with my little half hour!! great and he’s so, so fast with his picking. terrific–i will always listen after practicing.

  15. Wow Tony this is so beyond awesome! I feel like I have just broken into your secret room of hidden golden picks!!! I can’t wait to watch all of these little treasures!!!! Thank you so much for adding this little gold nugget to The Academy ❤
