If I know that my answer might be a long one, I write it into Word and then copy paste. I wonder if it’s because too many people are posting at the same time? Good luck @Loraine figuring it out.

Hey @guitar_monkey , first I’d like to welcome you to the group. I would recommend starting a log, write down the date, what you practice and for how long. I’m a computer gal so I use an excel spreadsheet. But, you can just write it on paper. That’s a good start. I can’t stick to a routine of, ‘I have a special area to practice’ or ‘right after I get a cup of coffee’. I play when I play. If you are doing the daily challenge and a little fretboard wizard you’re probably putting in 20 minutes a day (good for you). Use the stop watch on your IPhone too. You’ll be surprised how long you are actually playing the guitar. The motivation could be anything, it could be able to sit on the porch and just play some riffs or making someone laugh at a song you made up. Don’t get discouraged it ain’t easy 🙂 TAC is here to help you.

Hi @CaptainFuture , If you take the Fretboard Wizard you’ll learn more about the Nashville number system in the course. I tried to google it and it was over-powering confusing. In the Fretboard Wizard, Tony puts it in easy terms, with a white board and a guitar. You’ll get quizzes along the way to help make you remember. Good Luck. It’s only offered a couple times a year, when it’s offered up, take it.

Good for you to be taking ‘person to person’ lessons at the same time. You didn’t say what type of things you are learning in your classes? I would just suggest to toss in something to make a song sound a little fun. Practice some chord transition runs between chords. A run from G chord to D chord just brightens up a song a little. I’m attaching a youtube to give you an idea what I’m talking about, incase you don’t know. Just copy and paste into your browser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWZ4FQj41to
It takes time to learn the ins and outs of playing the guitar. One day it will all fall in place. You sound like you are on the right track.

MemberFebruary 9, 2022 at 4:31 am in reply to: “Dangers” of Chord substitutions as a beginnerHi @speckpgh , There are some chords I just have had a hard time with, and…… I change them. I have found that in time I can go back and use the chord I was supposed to use, sometimes not. The practice is to help you with your guitar journey. Not to frustrate you to the point of kicking the dog and breaking your guitar over the kitchen table (ok, maybe that’s a little overboard). I don’t see a problem with a little improvisation from time to time. Example being…. I am learning a song that changes from a Asus2 into Cadd9. I just can’t make the switch fast enough. So I changed it into something that I could do. Good luck

@Geordie , I’m going to guess that updating any of the tab sheets won’t be done. It would just be too time consuming. I can’t say that I have seen anything that I would call wrong. I think @Loraine had some good suggestions thou. At least you would get some input one way or another so you can make a decision.

@Sheryl14 ,When something doesn’t print correctly for me, it drives me up a wall. My printer isn’t right on top of me, it’s in another room. I have had this happen to a few times. So now, I save mine to my computer (same as you). But, if it’s something I want to use for practice later in the day, when I don’t have the computer on. I take a picture of it with my IPhone. Then I have it. I hope this is an idea that helps.

Hey @jumpinjeff ,I really like that Tony is pulling in one of the challenges into his Acoustic Tuesday show. Takes it a step further to explain the what is and why. I’m going to spend this year paying a little more attention. 🙂

You know @MikeGaurnier, I think the first year with TAC I was in a hurry to learn songs. So the daily challenges weren’t really what I was expecting. I was always in the ….. when do we learn a song??? Now, I realize that we are learning much more than a song. We are learning how the music works. So we can pour ourselves into a song we made and shared with others. Anyway, that’s my take on it all. This year, i’m going to pay a little more attention to the challenges and the courses.

Thanks @docteny , I really liked the video myself. I am pretty slow myself, but speed takes time. I found quite a few videos that looked interesting. One was on learning bluegrass music. I really would like to learn bluegrass music. I don’t know if my fingers can go that fast? Rock on good buddy.

Hi @Moonhare I was just looking for something online that would make learning songs more fun and I came across this video. I, myself want to jazz up my playing a little bit. Just adding in some note transitions helps a lot. @Skyman is taking ‘in-person’ lessons also, that’s a big WOW in my book. I was using Johnny Cash’s ‘I walk the line’ and practicing all the transitions between the verses and the intro. Just sort of made a light bulb moment for me.
