@C3guitar – It comes down to personal preference and what works best for you. I migrated to stiffer picks in the 1.0mm to 1.5mm range and that is what works best for me. Best to just try several and see what clicks.

I have also found that the more expensive picks like Gravity, Martin and the gold standard Blue Chip do indeed make a difference in tone and sound. You can really hear it with the Blue Chip. The only real question that remains with Blue chip is the difference worth the cost?

Try looking at Seagull Guitars – very well made and don’t break the bank.

@reachcast I think this problem happens a lot with everyone. I do the same thing – will work hard at some TAC exercise, get it down, like it a lot and then move onto the next week, etc. 2 weeks later, I can’t even recall the one I worked so hard at and nailed.

I now have an Excel sheet for every TAC exercise with basic info like date, Key, type, running, what is might be used for etc. and a comment field. For ones I really like, I highlight in green (and of course make them a Favorite) , so I can some back to them later if desired. This helps a bit. I have now expanded it to also separately capture these theme weeks which I think really upped the TAC game.

WRT songs, I have another excel file with the 200 or so I would like to learn (: I also suffer from the deer in the headlights look is anyone asks me to play something. Kind of frustrating given all the time I have put in on guitar over the last 3.5 years. So, I also put a list in my phone of 10 or so songs, that I can actually play, so if anyone ever asks me to play something, I can quickly look at that and bingo.

    Hope this helps

There was a week of Drop D exercises back in June culminating with the Friday “Father & Son Reunion”, but it was not wrapped around a song or artist.

Like others mentioned, “She Talks to Angels” theme week was in Open D or slap a Capo on the 2nd fret to make it Open E where the song is actually played.

@JoeT – You may want to expand that explanation a bit. What you have described is the Major Pentatonic Scale= 1-2-3-5-6. There is also the Minor Pentatonic . Minor Pentatonic Scales= 1-3-4-5-7.

I find the Minor Pentatonic more useful as you can use it against both Major and Minor keys and it sounds good, whereas the Major Pentatonic only sounds good in a Major Key. Of course, you can also get fancy and mix the two.

I was a bit disappointed that Fretboard Wizard really didnot get into the Pentatonic Scales as they are just so useful and cool.

    Enjoy

@N-lightMike is spot on here. I really like some of the new TAC initiatives, especially the weeks aligned towards a particular artist or song style. It really helps tie things together. I will miss Acoustic Tuesday, but it ending is not really that big a deal as I couldn’t really keep up with them all anyhow and really after 500 episodes the subject material was very well covered.

I find TAC overall to be very helpful, so much so, that I signed on as a Lifer after the first season. I also subscribe to another site (on of the ones Tony highlighted in one of the Acoustic Tuesday shows) that is totally different and more focused on blues and the underlying theory and whys of playing various runs/riffs. That combined with TAC has really enhanced my knowledge and skills.

I have seen a few on here bemoaning the forum and complaining that it isn’t that good anymore. My observation is that the TAC forum is much more active and engaging than most other sites.

One thing I would like to see Tony bring back is the 90 Day live Zooms – they were great, especially the breakout sessions where you had the opportunity to interact with other TAC members.

Bottom line: TAC is money well spent.

Thanks for the response @Carol-3M-Stillhand. Based on responses here and also on “The Acoustic Forum” I have concluded these things are a waste. My problem is not dexterity or strength, but rather reach. Will just keep stretching every day and go with it.

Thanks for the suggestion @albert_d. Guitar size really has no impact. I have no problem with the Dread size etc. Scale length, nut width and neck design do indeed impact. I had and older Seagull S-6 which had a scale length of 24 7/8″ and it helped a little, but not enough to really make a difference.
