You could always take your old Fender in for a setup adjustment and that should fix the buzzing. Also, assume it is in a humidity controlled environment as this can and will have an effect and could cause the buzzing.

I have no experience with the Zager guitars, but you may also want to check out the older Seagull S6 models ( I see someone else mentioned Seagull S6 – great guitars for the price). I just sold a Seagull S6 because it had a 1.8″ nut width which was just too much for my short fingers to bite off. The person who bought it had just the opposite problem of larger hands.

@KayMesser That is really good after only 1 year on TAC!! Great job. I have been struggling with Blackbird (lots of different approaches for this one floating around on YouTube) for some time now and just have to keep at it.-

What impresses me about your playing at this point is the clarity and smoothness of your chord transitions – really good for only being on board for 1 year.

    Enjoy

Here is a Martin site where you can enter your Martin Guitar serial # and it will give you the year. It also has all kinds of other great info wrt specs, etc. on Martin guitars.

    http://martinrep.com/serial.html

So, I entered your serial # and it came up as 1928 which we know is wrong as they didn’t start making the D-41 until 1969. So, the serial # is legit, but it does not belong to this guitar, or some part of the Serial # is missing. It all sounds quite suspect.

Just for fun I entered the serial #s for my D-35 and D-16 and the years were spot on.

Suggest you contact Martin directly and ask them if this is legit

Wow! – That is really good there @Moonshare. Sounded great – smooth and clean with no miss steps (at least none that I could discern🙂). Was not really familiar with this tune, but it will now be added to my list of songs to learn thanks to your great performance.

Just 2 years into TAC? Looks like your were probably well on your way prior to TAC.

    Great job.

Welcome to TAC @Stryder. As most said already, 30 days is a good place to start. A word of caution though, don’t get frustrated if you can’t seem to do all the 30 day stuff. It is just a start. I have jokingly posted before that Tony should change the name to that to something like 90 Days to play😀

I have been hard at TAC for 3 years. I have not looked at the 30 day thing in a while, but my guess is there are probably still things in there that I can’t do seamlessly.

    Enjoy the ney.

May 20, 2023 at 6:44 am in reply to: 1 11/16 VS 1 3/4 Nut Width: Does It Make A difference?

    @OhWowMan,

In my opinion nut width does indeed make a difference. All my guitars are 1 11/16” nut widths with once exception. I have a Seagull S-6 that with a 1.8” nut width. That is a bit too much to bite off for my rather short fingers, thus it is up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

So, the difference between 1 11/16” and 1 ¾” is only 1/16 of an inch. If you amortize that across 6 strings (5 spaces between the six strings) that shakes out to a difference of only .0125” between the strings. Hardly even measurable, but if you have bigger fingers, it may still make a difference.

I also think that you must look at the neck design (e.g. – standard C shape, modified low oval, V neck, et.) coupled with the nut width as the two together make a difference.

At the end of the day, you just have to try each one out for yourself and see what you think.

Oh, I also have a 12 String and there the wider nut width is painfully obvious as soon as you give it a try, but that is a different animal.

    Hope this helps.😀

@Maydog – I have a question wrt those “in-the-sound-hole” guitar humidifires that I have never received an answer on, so perhaps you can weigh in – When using an “in-the-sound-hole”guitar humidifier, do you need to keep the guitar/case laying flat vice the normal standing on its side.

@Deirdre, I use a Vornado EVAP40 Room humidifier and it works very well with all the guitars hanging on the wall. Holds 4 gallons which is nice. When I am going to be away for more than a day or two, all the guitars go in the case with an in-the-sound-hole humidifier.

Good luck @Kitman. Always looked at you as one of the foundational go to guys here for insight, etc. Hope you return someday.

I started here in May 2020 as well, and subsequently signed on as a lifer. I am also exploring other venues that have a different focus and add to my guitar journey, but I look at TAC as the keystone place that enables me to explore the others, and so will continue using TAC daily as the start for everything else

    Enjoy

@mrfredsporty – really sorry to hear you are hitting the eject button, and hope you reconsider. I always enjoyed your observations If you bail, I think you will miss the sense of community here, especially with those of us who are more seasoned wrt time spent on earth.

Whatever your decision, wish you the best of luck on your guitar journey.
