In addition to consistency, working on stuff outside of your comfort zone is one of the key aspects of TAC. I’m sure at this stage everything feels like it’s outside of your comfort zone, because you don’t even have one yet. That’s actually a good thing! That’s why it’s recommended to mark a lesson complete after you’ve spent at least 10 min. working on it. By constantly challenging yourself to learn new things it keeps you from getting in a rut and gives you a variety of skills. It isn’t necessary or desirable even to perfect a lesson. Also, I know it’s hard, but stop grading yourself. These are the only things you should be grading yourself on: Did you show up? Did you try your best for 10 min.? Did you improve as you practiced? Did you have fun? Mark Complete. Move on. Next lesson. Repeat.
What people don’t realize is that even when it doesn’t feel like you’re making progress, you are. Stacking day upon day upon day upon day adds up. It’s not only physical, it’s also mental. Your brain needs time to assimilate what you’re trying to do physically. Then suddenly that thing that you couldn’t play (F chord, barre chord, finger picking pattern, etc.), that you spent so much time on, is easy. Best of all, it’s easy from now on. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s never the goal. Did you show up? Did you try your best for 10 min.? Did you improve as you practiced? Did you have fun? Mark Complete. Move on. Next lesson. Repeat. It really is that simple.

Congrats on your new Puddle Jumper Jack! I have a Journey guitar myself and they are really neat, even when you’re not traveling. Best of all, no one knows you’re carrying a guitar around, so it’s very stealthy. Enjoy your guitar and your travels!

Good work Greg! You just have to keep at it. It will come.

My understanding is that this website was changed about a year ago. In the older videos he apparently played at 3 different speeds. Now, it’s just one speed and you have to change it yourself via the 1.5x, 2x, etc. There may be a stray or two of the old vids. I wouldn’t get hung up on it. I generally look at how many tattoos he has to determine how old the video is. 😜 I don’t know of any other way.

Congrats Dan, 👏 I still haven’t managed that one.

I think it depends on what you’re playing. If you’re fingerpicking, it is recommended that you have an anchor of some sort, whether that’s your pinky, wrist or something else. If you’re strumming, you definitely don’t want an anchor. If you’re flat picking, you probably want an anchor sometimes, but not always. Hybrid picking is a whole other animal and I’m not really sure if, where or when you anchor. If you’re playing slide you might need the pinky to mute strings. So, you see, there are a lot of variables and no hard and fast rules.

That sounds like some really good small wins. Keep at it. It only gets better.

Yeah, I used to have a problem with the F chord so I’d avoid those songs altogether, or if I was feeling really ambitious, transcribe it to another key. Now, knowing what I know, I’d probably just us a capo. It takes a while. Some days are better than others. Just keep at it and it will come.

Congrats NMhiker!
I’m just a few weeks behind you. Really looking forward to it.

I’ve been here nearly 5 years and this is the first time we’ve had bats in the house, so it’s a little surprising. I learned that bats are protected here in NJ which is why I trapped it. I guess it was just dormant when I found it because it was day time, but it was really creepy because it didn’t move at all when I moved the case and I almost touched it when I went to open the case. My first thought was that my dog had somehow gotten to and torn the case. Luckily my second thought (it’s a bat!) occurred before I tried to open the case. Phew!

It’s an LR Baggs Anthem knockoff that I got from Amazon for less than $40. Here’s the Amazon Title for it: <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>ASCENDAS Folk Acoustic Guitar PICKUP, A-202 Guitar Equalizer Piezo Pickup. The guy at the shop said he wouldn’t be surprised if the same company makes them for LR Baggs. Has the under saddle piezo and a microphone that mounts under the bridge. Has a sound hole volume control and another wheel that blends the mic with the piezo. I’m fond of the two pickup systems and I like that the controls aren’t invasive at all. I would have preferred to have a tone wheel, but at this price I’m not complaining. It’s got a little more treble than I like, but that can easily be remedied with the amp settings. I have them all flat at present.
I’m going to get another one to put in Mojo for slide. It has a very small sound hole so this type will work out perfectly for that.
