There’s no shame in playing from written music, if you ask me! I’m not great at memorizing, so I find it really helpful to play off of tabs or song sheets. If I play something enough times it’ll stick. 🙂

I’m glad you’re sticking around, @Cadgirl! I just finished my first year, too, and decided to stick around for similar reasons. Although a lot of my practice time is spent on other lessons and pursuits, I find that the anchor of the daily TAC challenge is a huge motivator as it gives me something to start with each day. That way I don’t need to think about what to work on until my brain and fingers are warmed up a little. And there are a lot of nice folks here!

Great job playing all the January challenges! And congratulations on your new Gretsch! I looked it up and it is a magnificent guitar…

Hi, @LisaH! Sorry you had a rough run of things recently. It’s frustrating whey you’re on a roll with something and life has other plans for you. Here’s hoping for a healthy February for you!
I know it sounds trite, but try not to look backwards! Just put the guitar in your hands for a few minutes each day and all those circuits that you were forming by playing before you hit the rough patch will come right back online over the next few weeks.
You got this! 😃

Congratulations! And nice work figuring out what would work for you and making the trade!

I liked these:
“Your Next Six Chords”
“Strumming Jumpstart”
“Fingerpicking Jumpstart”
“Flatpicking Jumpstart”

Hi, @stevieblues! Any trouble with the other strings? Make sure that the high E string is seated correctly at the nut and the saddle. If so, sounds like the guitar setup may need to be adjusted. Is there a local shop where you can bring it to have the setup checked? If it’s new and you got it locally they should be able to adjust it for you. Good luck! That is a bummer!

Loraine is right on!
If you’re finding the backing track to be a little too speedy, you can download it and then use a piece of software to change the tempo and loop it so you can keep on riffing. I use something called “Capo” on the Mac, but I’m sure there’s something analogous if you’re using Windows
