Wow – very organised. Keep it up and you are going to make a lot of progress!

It can’t be easy to solo on a 12 string. Enjoyed drifting away to that tone you really only get with the extra 6 strings. Great work 🤟😎🎸 Darren (Moonhare)

What can I say? Jamming about is such a wonderful thing – I hope that one day I’ll be able to just sit down and do something like this on guitar. Great to hear a fluidity to playing that comes from really getting to know the instrument rather than practicing a specific riff over and over to get it right. Keep on rockin’ 🤟😎🎸 Darren (Moonhare)

Hi there @PMAC and @solitaire . I think the reason why Tony’s course is a bit different in that regard is it is not specifically about teaching you to play songs but about how to play guitar. That may sound like the same thing but they are poles apart. I came here because decades of dabbling about playing easy songs that didn’t stretch my playing never helped me improve or learn real guitar technique. There was no joy in picking up the guitar.
In the past 7 months the daily playing, challenges and techniques have helped propel me so far forward from where I was in April I’m just a bit stunned. I realised this first in July when I retried a song tutorial on YouTube that I simply couldn’t do previously and suddenly I knew all the techniques I needed not only to play it but do it with ease.
My advice is use the course for improving your technique, dexterity and overall movement around the fretboard then if there is a song you want to learn pop onto YouTube and find a free tutorial. I did exactly that with Rain Song which I posted on Play For Us a few days ago. I would not have stood a snowflake’s chance in hell of playing that in April and although it stretches my playing to near my limit I can do it now. My routine is TAC each day then I learn the Saturday song from Angela Petrilli on YouTube each week to see how my playing is going.
I guess it’s like that old ‘Give someone a fish or teach them to fish’ adage. Teach someone a song and they can play a song. Teach them to play guitar and they can play any song.

Hey there @Fehorse that is so cool! Glad you’ve found your guitar Mojo again. Posting on the Play For Us forum feels a bit intimidating at first but we are among friends here and I certainly post videos where I’m absolutely playing at the very limit of my ability (and limited ability!) with a few mistakes in there. But I would thoroughly recommend doing just that. In a year or two you’ll be able to look back on early attempts and see how far you’ve got. Keep on rockin’ 🤟😎🎸 Darren (Moonhare).

Well done @DaveFromDixon . Sounds like you’ve had a similar experience to many of us. I’m coming up to month 7 here after 41 years of dabbling about. The 30 Day Challange gives a great focus to start. The trick is not losing focus after that. You’ve already had some suggestions above – echo that.
I gradually eased into a routine after a bit of wandering in the wilderness of various courses that took my fancy in my second month. What I’d say is it’s good to be able to dip into those but don’t feel you have to work through them all. I’d start looking at the daily challenges too but not expecting to be able to do every one right from the start (I get about 2-3 a week) but it gives you a fall back. Also if you really like any of the daily challenges save as a favourite (or favorite if you’re Stateside) because they all clear down at the end of the month and you’ll have to wait a year to see them again. F Get your 10 mins (plus) a day every day you can, visit the forums, and definitely get along to the 90 Day Progress Party in January. It’ll be advertised on the banner at the top of this site in the lead up to the event.
Welcome to the community and I hope you have as much fun and progress as I have over the past few months.

MemberOctober 28, 2021 at 7:19 am in reply to: Whiskey Before Breakfast arr. by Jack TuttleVery cool. Great alternate picking and clarity of notes and as Angela Petrilli says in her vids, you can’t play anything fast until you can play it slow. I’ve not heard of the Bluegrass guitar primer before – must look it up. Might help me with my 90 Day Progress challenge to post a flat picked tune each month.

I found this one quite a challenge but worthwhile persisting over the course of a week. Honestly was wondering if I’d bitten off more than I could chew to start off!

I think the 90 day goals are good when they are achievable but stretch you as well – quite literally with this one. There’s a really nasty stretch at one point near the start that took a while to get!

So many to choose from! Thanks for sharing. I’m sure these posts are going to help out other people too.

MemberOctober 27, 2021 at 6:42 am in reply to: Rain Song for October – 90 Day Progress ChallengeThanks. I know it is possible to play it in standard tuning but it’s ridiculously difficult. If alternative tuning is good enough for Jimmy, then it’s good enough for me!

MemberOctober 26, 2021 at 6:01 am in reply to: My first successful Friday daily challenge with a Barre Chord. Thanks so much @Guy_H . You have hit the nail on the head here. None of us should expect to be able to do everything straight away and to be honest I think I’d rather that it was that way so you feel that sense of achievement when you finally get it. I’m really encouraged by your experience. A good friend and singer/guitarist came round the other evening and showed me some chords and she made the point that my hands are larger and stronger than hers so there is nothing impossible here, it’s just practice.
