Interesting question, Guy. As So_Cal Ian and Fletch pointed out it really depends on what your main goals are. Something I will add is the skill of singing while playing is not to be underestimated and takes a lot of practice.
Also, if you’re learning a song with techniques which are challenging for you but you aim to be able to sing and play then you’ll make progress with both areas.
Final thoughts, learn new material which is challenging but achievable and which will be fun to perform.

Thanks for the responses everyone. My thoughts so far:
– the neck is very comfortable <div>
<div>- it’s quite bright, although considering the tone woods I think that’s mainly due to the Elixir strings on it, which are too bright for my taste. I’ll wait and see what it sounds like with my preferred strings; D’Addario Nickel Bronze </div><div>
</div><div>- overall I’d describe the sound as ‘full’. There’s a reason why spruce and mahogany are so commonly used for dreadnoughts! </div><div>
</div><div>- it’s much better suited to flat-picking than fingerpicking, as you would expect from a dreadnought, but that’s fine with me as I’m not into finger-picking that much any way </div><div>
</div><div>- picked arpeggiated chords and strumming go really well together on it, for example at 4:55 </div><div>- I think it should serve well as a song-writing instrument and am looking forward to trying out various alternate tunings on it.</div><div>Overall, thumbs up. 👍

Thank you all @Christopher_H , @shaktiness and @johnny67 for your kind and encouraging comments. Strangely enough, I’m having difficulties with remembering the chord progression for this song and keep having to refer to my notes. I guess it just needs some more time to get embedded in my long-term memory.

Thanks @albert_d, @christopher_h, @erikbog, @Marty69 and @riverjordan_61.
Haha, a week ago I was playing at one of the VOMs and one of my dogs, I have three, jumped up and managed to totally paw mute all 6 strings, LOL.

Cheers, Terry. I think as such a well known song and one with quite an interesting chord progression it lends itself well to shifts in the quiet-loud dynamic and also embellishing certain parts and keeping others simple. Glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks @Michelle-PSL. I haven’t been able to get the hang of hybrid picking so finger picking and strumming with my fingers will have to do instead. 🙂

Thanks @Marty69! 🙂
