    Hi Gunner,

It is just those three things listed in that section – Fret with the Blues Shuffle, Pick direction with the Blues Baseline and learn the Blues Boggie. With each lesson you will see “Learn” at the bottom of the screen box, and you can play the lesson, then go to “Play” and you can play along with Tony at various speeds. The speed control is on the lower RH corner of the screen – it will be set to 1x – you can change it up or down. Beneath the screen on the RH side there is also a TAB where you can get the tablature and musical score for the piece if that is helpful for you.

I have finished the 30 days to play and am now “thinking” about trying the daily challenge – I find them difficult, but I didn’t find the resource material which you can get if you click the START CHALLENGE button! At least look at them maybe?

    Hope this helps!

There is something about that in the Fretboard Wizzard course – in the first section – Foundation of Five, the third lesson called Chord Matrix.

An example: if you are in the key of C Major the notes are in this order:

C D E F G A B C… the first note 1 (C) the third note 3 (E) and the fifth note 5 (G) become the three scales from which the chords for the song can be created.

They are placed in a matrix with the 1 scale at the top, the 3 scale in the middle and the 5 scale at the bottom. From this matrix you can calculate the major, minor and diminished chords in the pattern of Maj, min, min, Maj, Maj, min, dim, and Maj reading from left to right. The first Major chord would be column 1 = C, E & G.

I hope you have access to Fretboard Wizzard and can look it up. I am not far through the Fretboard Wizzard so if it comes up again later I’m not aware of that yet….

Glad for your success! I had difficulty seeing what Tony was doing with his fingers – what finger in what order, etc. Did you notice any resource material for this exercise?

Oh, Dear, naughty Max. I read somewhere that cats are musical creatures and enjoy listening to music. That has not been my experience of them; I think they like quiet. He probably doesn’t want you playing because it takes your attention away from HIM. Consider putting him in a different room and closing the door when you practice? I used to play saxophone, and I had a dog who would come and sit beside me and howl – think he taught the pack leader was howling so he’d join in – most off-putting!

I heard a helpful tip on one of the YouTube videos. To condition the tips of your fingers by (when you are not playing) pushing the nail of the thumb into each fingertip. You can use different patterns of pushing… you can do it anywhere… like if stuck in traffic or walking the dog. It will help speed up the forming of more rigid fingertips. Once you have nice firm pads on the top of your fingers you won’t have to push so hard on the strings to get good clear notes; it even helps with getting clearance from the other strings. This could also bring some relief to your hands. But you got a lot of good advice from all of the others! Well done everyone.

Hi Loraine, I noticed that part of my profile had disappeared… it is back now. I don’t post much in the forums, but I did on the same @saslia “bored” player post as you. The reply I entered worked as normal but I didn’t get notification of @saskia‘s response (which they had entered). Hope things are back to normal again!

It’s a lovely guitar! Glad you have a new friend to experiment with. Personally, though I think the smell of a new car takes a lot of beating (not that I’ve ever had one).

I use/used Contemporary Class Guitar by Will Schmid published by Hal.Leonard. It comes in 3 books – from very basic, chords, scales, note values/timing (basic theory), notes on fretboard. There are songs with just chords and also finger-pick songs. I taught myself to play quite well from sheet music using this (mostly).

You might be able to pick it up second-hand online. There are other tutorial books of a similar style available at music stores. I also had great luck with 101 Songs for Easy Guitar from Wise Publications. It comes in books one and two – I only have “two” getting “one” has to be high on my bucket list. Fantastic selection of music from the 1970s mostly – Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart, The Beatles, Elton, Rolling Stones to name a few.

Best of luck, keep us posted on how you get along, Chris.

This seems to be a common issue. I’m newer to this format than you so can’t really comment. If you skip forward a couple of pages in the Forums, find “Help Please” from IMPBW there are some useful comments there.

Wonderful. That was really beautiful. Great playing, you are an inspiration. I know I will watch this many times and send it on to friends. Your fret-work is lovely to watch.
