100 days in TAC
Hello everyone!
Well, tomorrow is my 100th day as a TAC member! Wow, it has been great!
It’s been lots of hard work- (zero music background- zero), lots of hours of practice- (usually over an hour every single day), and some frustration also- (but that’s most likely because of our old enemy- “expectation”).
So— My small wins are the following three things–
1. Fretting and picking accuracy is much improved and the “rate” of improvement- (how fast I pick up the Daily Lessons)- is gaining some momentum. I feel like I’m learning things “faster”- (does that make sense?)…..
2. Actual “playing speed” is improving– but I- (on purpose)- deliberately– still try to play slower 90% of the time. Most people may try to play faster– (but me being the non-conformist……). My brain tells me- “faster-faster!”- I have to concentrate on keeping things slow and accurate … Speed will come in its own time.
3. The “nut and boltsy” part of playing is going pretty good these days. I usually watch the video, and then play off the tabs. Muscle and hand memory picks things up after a while it seems.
So those are my small wins…..(!?).
Randomly– Beyond those three things– my relationship with my metronome is like working with someone you don’t necessarily like- they’re just “there”….. I’ll leave it at that. At least I haven’t had to replace it— yet.
Also randomly– I think I’m gonna get the Fretboard Wizard Course. I feel like I’m starting to realize– and feel like– there’s just somehow “more” out there….. With zero music background or “natural” ability, while the “nuts and boltsy” stuff comes fairly easy– over time– I wanna know more of the “why” and “how”. I can hammer and nail like crazy- but now I’m starting to think about what the house is gonna be like– (sorry about the dumb analogy).
Anyway, I thought I read the Course was only available twice a year- is this true?
Finally– (whew!)— thanks to everyone in this- our- TAC community. So caring, helpful, and understanding. Not that I’m a “long ways”— yet, but I’m only here because of your help & support.
Sorry about being so damn long-winded….
The “Old Coach”– Mark J
