    Hello everyone!

Well, tomorrow is my 100th day as a TAC member! Wow, it has been great!

It’s been lots of hard work- (zero music background- zero), lots of hours of practice- (usually over an hour every single day), and some frustration also- (but that’s most likely because of our old enemy- “expectation”).

So— My small wins are the following three things–

    1. Fretting and picking accuracy is much improved and the “rate” of improvement- (how fast I pick up the Daily Lessons)- is gaining some momentum. I feel like I’m learning things “faster”- (does that make sense?)…..

    2. Actual “playing speed” is improving– but I- (on purpose)- deliberately– still try to play slower 90% of the time. Most people may try to play faster– (but me being the non-conformist……). My brain tells me- “faster-faster!”- I have to concentrate on keeping things slow and accurate … Speed will come in its own time.

    3. The “nut and boltsy” part of playing is going pretty good these days. I usually watch the video, and then play off the tabs. Muscle and hand memory picks things up after a while it seems.

So those are my small wins…..(!?).

Randomly– Beyond those three things– my relationship with my metronome is like working with someone you don’t necessarily like- they’re just “there”….. I’ll leave it at that. At least I haven’t had to replace it— yet.

Also randomly– I think I’m gonna get the Fretboard Wizard Course. I feel like I’m starting to realize– and feel like– there’s just somehow “more” out there….. With zero music background or “natural” ability, while the “nuts and boltsy” stuff comes fairly easy– over time– I wanna know more of the “why” and “how”. I can hammer and nail like crazy- but now I’m starting to think about what the house is gonna be like– (sorry about the dumb analogy).

Anyway, I thought I read the Course was only available twice a year- is this true?

Finally– (whew!)— thanks to everyone in this- our- TAC community. So caring, helpful, and understanding. Not that I’m a “long ways”— yet, but I’m only here because of your help & support.

Sorry about being so damn long-winded….

Congrats on your 100 day milestone Mark! It sounds as if you’ve made huge strides in your knowledge and skills. Those are some great wins!

As for Fretboard Wizard, it is only offered twice per year, but it should be opening up very soon. It’s a great course. I just started it again, and I plan on taking it slower than I initially did.

Have to edit something in my original post- out of conscience.

I don’t really have “zero” music background. Close- but not absolute “zero”.

I’ve had a guitar for a long time, and it sat for 99% of that “long time”. I’ve played (easy) chord-tab songs for a couple years off & on– mostly off. And mostly- badly.

No lessons, no school band, no music knowledge whatsoever. Ever.

TAC is my path, through it, my “own-self” will determine how far I go. And how fast. And with a clear routine and plan.

    Onward and upward-

    Mark J.

Those are great, progressing #smallwins, @Mark . And your approach makes a lot of sense. Most importantly, wow, it is working for you, so slow, muscle memory, routine, they are all grabbing you and making your time great fun. Thanks for sharing, it is inspirational.

Hello @mkjohnsons , great first 100 days. Sounds like you have found a clear and direct path. You are in a great place with your metronome. It took me years before I would even admit it had any use or merit because it was always off. Ha. Being just “there” means at least you have shaken hands. (I never met an analogy I didn’t like). Great call on FW. Your curiosity has been primed. It is a game changer. Keep the enemy in your crosshairs and don’t forget Expectation seems to congregate with Tension. Play on, GGU!

Jeff- We must have the same kind of metronome! Not very accurate- always just a little off my rhythm🤨.

I wonder if that means we could jam IRL really well together?🤣

Congratulations! I also got the Fretboard Wizard. Haven’t gone into it yet but I feel great that I know I can go anytime.

Good stuff Mark. I am only a few weeks in and like you no music background at all. It is a slow go but I will stick it out. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all for kind encouraging words!

Reminds me that maybe I’m not lost after all!

Really cool to me how we– “each other” keeps “each other” going sometimes- (man does that sound dumb….)

    Thanks again. Mark J.

@Mark, happy 100th day! your #1 makes total sense. There’s just something that goes on in the brain (a lightbulb?) that says, “It’s working!!!”
Then #2, I heard it said about learning guitar that “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast”. I had to think that one through but now find it to be true. And getting the Fretboard Wizard, is a great idea. I haven’t regretted one moment of having done the course! Taking advantage of all that is before you (even if it seems random to you), will eventually get tied together in one neat little package!!! You’ll be so glad you put the energy out for such a fun skillset. Good for you!!!
