  • First TACiversary Story, 6th year

Posted by MarcheM on April 19, 2021 at 8:05 am

Well why now, I ask myself.

After the year that we have all gone through, in some way or another, it’s time. Maybe someone can relate.

I found Tony at a time when I had decided to learn guitar again, for the millionth time. He played acoustic, I had one of those. Tony talked about a program he was developing. Tac was formed and I joined.

I dabbled with the TAC program. After a while, I wasn’t playing anymore. I was internet surfing one day, and found several players whose styles of music I liked. But I didn’t just want someone to tell me where to put my fingers, I wanted to know why.

There are great programs out there, I wouldn’t deny that, but sometimes it’s who you connect with. I decided to go back and try TAC again. Well to my surprise, I hadn’t canceled my TAC membership. I just forgot about it for about a year.

Now we jump to 2019, I made up my mind that I wasn’t going into 2020, making the same New Year’s resolution. I did the daily challenge for at least 10 minutes. I revisited Fretboard Wizard. Then Covid-19 happened. I completed the 30 Days to Play. I went back to the the beginning for everything. Chords, Fretting…Fun!

I understand the guitar fretboard. Now I know why my noodling sounds good. It’s called triads. Can I play songs, my own. Songs that others recognize, not yet, but I’ll remember to have fun while trying!

@MarcheM , I relate strongly to your story especially when you said, “But I didn’t just want someone to tell me where to put my fingers, I wanted to know why.” That moment when I reached the same conclusion was a turning point in my journey. The other thing that caught my eye was when you said,… “I understand the guitar fretboard. Now I know why my noodling sounds good. It’s called triads.” My coming around to this idea and even more basic than the triads themselves it the power of thirds and their relationship to each other. Love your story!!! TAC=FUN, TAC+FUN=Success(aka progress toward goal)

I played off and on for a lot of years not knowing why, I just had a good memory. Like you, the Why and Fretboard Wizard and triads have opened up a world of exploration. And now that age is slowing my memory, I can use the fretboard knowledge to know where the music should be going and hear it rather than pulling it up from the stored brain archives.

The memory indeed, and don’t forget the fingers! My knowledge and understanding of the guitar as improved greatly. These fingers of mine seem to have a mind of their own.🙂

Happy, happy 1st TACiversary (6th year) @MarcheM . Very inspirational journey, which I’m sure many can relate to. I agree that if you connect with someone, the learning is more productive,

@MarcheM Happy TACiversary! It’s awesome to see someone set and accomplish their goals. I’m only 3 months in so seeing how far others like yourself have come is truly inspirational.

Happy 6th TACiversary @MarcheM. Yes, you qualify for a 6th TACiversary even though you didn’t use TAC to the fullest for all those years, you have been a member for 6 years. This is simply the first time you have posted a TACiversary, but that’s ok. TAC is all about progress. But TAC’s program is flexible enough to accommodate everyone even though everyone progresses at different rates in different ways. Bottom line, TAC has worked for you and is working more effectively than ever. And that’s why this is an inspiring TACiversary story. So thanks for your first time posting and letting us know about your progress and especially about your fun.

    MG 😀

Mike, sometimes when I read of other members writing their own music or building guitars, my story doesn’t seem worth telling. So I truly thank you.
