When you feel like the joints aren’t working?!
Posted by Moonhare on April 10, 2022 at 6:41 amThis is a blues I wrote for my first ever virtual open mic earlier this year about the joys of getting older. I’m dedicating this performance to all the folks taking part in the 100 day challenge on Just Music Geeks – 100 days, 100 guitar videos – what a marathon! Hope this doesn’t leave you all deciding to retire.
PS – if you’re after serious delta blues I’d give this video a miss!

That was awesome Moonhare! 👏 You can play the blues very well. A great performance of your own song. Thanks for sharing this video! 😎

Thanks. I’ll never pass for a delta blues man with an accent like mine so I thought I’d just have a bit of fun with it and learn something different at the same time.

That was soooooo very awesome! Struck me as funny as I just wrote a song last week (using some of the techniques I have been learning here), called “Old”.
Clever; and nice “For What It’s Worth” reference. That was a swinging blues sound. Glad to see you post again. It has been too long.-
Thanks Phil. Yes life has been busy and we also suffered a bout of Covid in the house so it’s been longer between posts than I would have liked.

Ha! That was great Moonhare! Clever lyrics, good rhythm, and seamless singing and playing – really well done and enjoyable!

Juts a bit of fun really after a conversation at the end of one of the VOMs about hips, knees and all that. I jokingly said we’re all just spares and repairs then the song came out of it!

What a terrific effort. After watching so many blues artists over the years, your development of fun lyrics, timing, nice old dirty ending and so on was really top notch. Just so much fun! I’m in the replacement club, incidentally. I learned lots from your application of TAC lessons. Thanks, Moonhare!

Thanks so much. Yes I never intend to be a blues artist – growing up in Eastern England I’m not exactly steeped in the tradition – but it is nice to have a bit of light-hearted fun and try out something you’ve never done before. I’ve dodged the replacements so far but I expect it’s only a matter of time!

<div>Hi @Bill_Brown . Thanks for your kind words. Here are the lyrics.</div><div>
</div><div>
Verse 1
Those delta boys weren’t lying when they said they got the blues,
The years they keep a flying and I think I’m in their shoes,
Cos I’m a hip poppin, knee lockin, case of the tin can blues.
So you can take me for spares and repairs when I’m done with the blues.
Verse 2
My hip is a replacement, just got my second knee,
My wife looks fine through cataracts so I think I’ll leave them be
But I’m more metal than man, with a case of the tin can blues.
So you can take me for spares and repairs when I’m done with the blues.
Verse 3
Haven’t seen the second storey, of my house in 20 years,
My staircase is an Everest and I don’t have the gear,
Cos I’m a hip poppin, knee lockin, case of the tin can blues.
So you can take me for spares and repairs when I’m done with the blues.
Verse 4
Gonna need a bigger furnace, when I shuffle off this coil.
Just find a big volcano and then bring me to the boil,
Cos I’m more metal than man with a case of the tin can blues.
So you can take me for spares and repairs.
Recycle ! Reuse !
I’m more metal than man with a case of the tin can blues.
Outro
Hush baby what’s that sound? Every little joint just grinding down.

Terrific Darren. I resemble your lyrics! No metal yet but plenty of joint braces. Thank you for such a fun tune! 😁

I’m not quite there yet but moving in that direction I suspect!

That was brilliant Darren! So much fun and synthesizing all you’ve learned so effortlessly! Bravo! 🙌🏼

Let’s face it I’m never going to be a serious blues artist but it was fun pulling something together in that style.

Yes… Just saw this today and am still smiling. What a relatable piece and a fitting blues topic. You are so kind to share the lyrics. I intend to start its a simulation into my Borg consciousness now.

Really hadn’t ever tried a blues and what have I got to be unhappy about anyway but I can see this coming down the tracks so thought it would be a fun way to practice.

Thanks. Wasn’t sure quite how to do a blues when I’m not that blue so decided to just have a bit of fun with it.

Thanks. It was just meant to be a bit of fun but it’s the road we’re all on eventually I guess!

LMAOAO. That was comically melodic and just awesomely entertaining.
-
Thank you so much. It was great fun playing it at my first Virtual Open Mic.
