nothing is working on here
-
That is going to be fun when I get good at it!
-
This is going to b something to look forward to 10 minutes every how it will help, all ready feeling great about it
-
Got it…but far from perfect. The picking gets in my way, especially from Em to C. Grrrr.
-
Love this. Harder timing, and for some reason I was struggling just a small amount on the Em to C. Still thing it sounds unresolved for some reason.
-
I could eventually play this at 1/2 speed not too bad except for some stumbling to land on the right strings.
-
Nice exercise. Got it down at all speeds. Darned fun to play!
(Now back again to Sambora Sweetness as I still have to work that one – the hybrid picking win is my current guitar goal – not just to play it buy to play it perfectly). -
Real interesting to get to a lesson I’ve already incorporated in my playing.
-
I’m having a tuff go at it. My fingers aren’t working so well, but I’m sticking with it.
-
Today’s challenge was fun. Especially when my 4 year old granddaughter showed up! She insisted that I shouldn’t stop playing. The whole time she is plucking strings and strumming across the fretboard.
It certainly made today’s challenge, just that, a challenge!
At first it was frustrating but then turned comical. I just went with it.
Lasted about 15 minutes then she went upstairs with her Mimi.
Wow how I love being a pappa. We have a grandson expected to arrive in May. Life is only going to get better! Maybe someday they will learn to play and enjoy music as much as I do.
I spent an extra half hour (to make up for my little distraction) playing the challenge to make sure I got it right. That went well and much smoother than the last time.-
That sounds really great!
-
Hey, Truckin-On, keep playing in front of your granddaughter…some day she’ll join in for sure!
-
-
Practise time has been filled by snow shoveling this week.
-
Going to have fun incorporating walk downs and walk ups in my playing. I especially like it when Tony tweaks the straight eighth note rhythm- adds a bit of “mojo!”
-
Pretty cool exercise, Tony. I actually got up to 1.5x. With more practice, this could get to be a habit…
On another note, (see what I did there?) the counter just keeps on keeping on messing up. It keeps starting over for no reason. Nine times since I started in December 2022. I have resorted to keeping my own count, long ago. -
Really steady at 1,5xs speed on this one I am continuing to see big progress in a lot of areas. Any faster and the wheels start to fall off but happy overall with today’s challenge.
-
The walk down from the Am to the Em took a lot of work to get clean; took slowing waaaaaay dowwwwwn to get the pinkie ring middle pointer to working properly and and not sliding off the edge. This is one where I also had to really focus on where my wrist was to make it feel right.
-
Harder than it looked! Using the pinky created buzz at times. The E string worked much better when I didn’t use my pinky.
Enjoyed learning the general rules for this. -
Wow can’t believe it’s been 7 days since I started, didn’t miss a day! Thanks Tony for the encouragement!
-
Welcome, this is an awesome program. If you can keep a good routine and stick with-it as best you, can I know you’ll be satisfied with the results.
-
-
Landing on a clean C seems a little difficult, however a good practice
-
My afternoon revisit worked up to x2, 1.5 is pretty nice for most songs I would think. Gonna work on my 90 day now. 🙂
-
I’m going to see if I can add some of these walk ups and walk downs to a new song I’m writing. I keep you posted. Terry
-
Had to write it out on a blank sheet like yesterday then look from Tony to the sheet to remember where the walk was going, but started to sound like Tony (But on the slower Speed !!!)…… Lin.
-
I am so pleased with these lessons!
-
I’m really enjoying the course I just fear I’m not gonna remember any of this in a week. But i’m gonna trust the process.
-
Yeah! Ok with that one. Not the most accurate or tidiest but it’ll do for tonight. ‘Lil win!
-
I missed yesterday, but I was still able to keep up with the “walk ups”, which, scale-wise still seem like walk downs to me…? I love the variety we are getting to learn and it’s a beautiful day outside and I get to sit facing the window when I play, so …very cool. Thanks for these, Tony!
-
Hopefully my guitar journey will be better tomorrow.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!-
Thanks for daily well wishes, Stevieblues.
-
-
Noticing slow improvement every day! Really enjoying stumbling through new stuff.
-
An encouraging thing about today is pick accuracy…so much better than a year ago. I find myself not even giving it a thought as I do it. A win!
-
Small wins are better pick accuracy on the boom-chicca patterns and a better understanding of the walk downs & walk ups. Thanks, Tony!
-
Thank you, Tony, for forcing me to concentrate on my timing. Small win that way today. Cal, me too! Dissonance adds color tones!
-
Small win today: it sounds very good
-
I found the dissonance kinda cool it’s fast and fun
-
Have completely enjoyed all three days of Bass Walk Challenge so far. Will practice using these in songs.
-
I can hear the WHI’s Boris the Spider from these walk downs.
Fun week
@bill_brown thanks for the formula
-
I heard Phantom of the Opera! LoL
-
-
Not fond of dissonance. But I get the walkdown logic. So I am calling it good.
-
That was nice.
-
Who knew dissonance could sound so good. Pushing musical boundaries here, and landing at the Phantom of the Opera vibe as folks have commented. The 8 measure vs 4 measure is my take away lesson here for guitar picking. Great lesson today
-
Okay sorta getting it. A small win is that over this week I have really gotten the boom chica down still sloopy with the walk downs and ups but thankful for the boom chica!
-
Love this one Tony!
C Chord to A Minor is a great chord transition. Enjoying The Walk Down 🙂 Thanks again man, YOU ARE THE BEST!!! -
I think the main takeaway I’ve gotten this week in regards to doing walkdowns and lead-ins, I never really understood which notes I should use. Now, based on the TABS this week, it’s just the preceding 2 or 3 notes in a walkdown (E, F, F# followed by a G chord) or backing out the notes on a walkup like today (C, B, A# then A or Am chord). Now I’ll be able to better apply this technique in songs I learn.
-
Yes it does feel a little bit like Phantom of the Opera vibe. Way to go Andrew Lloyd Webber! I took my wife and girls to see the Gerard Butler version Movie about 5 times at a Cinama 10 and now Cinema 10 is closed and has weeds growing in the parking lot, shame!
-
This is a cool one! I can do it so much better than when I did 18mo ago.
-
Formulas for the tool box:
4 note Walk up = chord bass note minus 4 frets
4 note Walk down = chord bass note plus 4 fretsThese are “must have” tools for the guitar playing tool box! For fun, try mixing both formulas (up and down) with all the chord progressions we’ve used so far this week 🙂
-
Thanks @Bill_Brown
-
-
Funny how things change, this particular exercise is so cool and I guess stuck in my memory bank… I remember the first time I saw it thinking wow…. but Tony’s 10 minutes a day has worked for me! To anyone struggling please don’t give up…do this for you cause you deserve it!
-
Fun challenge! It had some Phantom of the Opera vibes. 😉
-
Strange, I left a comment and it made it anonymous. That’s new.
-
-
Really enjoying these lessons and the tone out of that Santa Cruz is outstanding.
-
Lots of fun, making my fingers go where they don’t belong! This four-note run seems strange. It has never been in my vocabulary. But I can’t quit playing it,
-
Great week of challenges so far! The lessons this week have transformed my playing!
-
I feel dark clouds from the first 2 walk downs then coming back down to the C is kinda soothing. Time for a 2nd cup now. Guitars and coffee – feeling good today!! Make it Fun yall 🙂
-
This day is an excellent day of guitar knowledge for me. I can now do the four-note turn-around. This process has always been a stumbling block for me. I hope everyone is doing well, and I can’t wait to read the comments.
-
Well done HowardM on achieving the four-note turnaround.
-
Thanks @paul21, it took 2 years of patience. Have a great day.
-
-
Agree with you @HowardM – time and patience and daily practices worked for me too! Way to go.. keep playing!
-
Congratulations, !
Challenge complete
