Hi Mark. What you wrote really resonated. I’m going through a similar phase: kind of switched from total enthusiasm to apathy overnight. I’m doing the dailies and counting the minutes to 10 so I can move on. Surprising how many times you can play a lick in 10 minutes lol. I don’t really have advice because I’m in it as well but it helped me to read someone else going through it right now, so maybe that will help you too. Like you said, you see these posts periodically which means it’s normal, it happens, it passes. My plan is to wait until it passes while doing the daily 10 minutes and trust the passion will return. I try to listen to guitar music on spotify to remind myself why. My favorite youtube trainer (Sydney Cummings) says about workouts: “you won’t get better by only showing up on the days you’re motivated, you have to put in the work on the days you don’t feel like it as well. We can’t control motivation but we can control commitment and consistency.” I think there is a lot of truth to that in many aspects of life. So I do my 10 minutes.

Yep. Bothered me a lot at first but then I got used to it. I wasn’t around here for the 3 speeds video but I really wish it was there. Watching something played at higher speeds is not the same as speeding up the video: I’m sure Tony plays a bit differently at a higher speed, subtle changes in finger movements and transitions, I’d like to see that.

It doesn’t make sense to me why they decided to take that away: the content was already there, created. Maybe for new content (if there ever will be such a thing) they can just make 1 video, but why not post the once already made? For the beginner lessons, the speed up button doesn’t do the trick, where the speed difference between slow and fast is ×5. Now the “normal speed” is the slowest video, and the fastest you can play it is x2, so not even the “medium speed” of what it is supposed to be.

Anyone interested in starting a petition to bring the 3 speed videos back?

I sought this post out today in search of comfort, and it delivered. Suddenly playing became overshadowed with self-criticism, doubts, and discontent. My ears are focussed on the mistakes and buzzing sounds, fingers cry out in pain, and heart fails to believe in progress. This post reminds me it is a temporary and necessary pothole in the road. @dr_dave Unfortunately I think you’re right. It just bugs me when Tony says “it took me 40 tries to film it at 200bmp” and I think, “I’ll never get to see that”. Sure, I can speed up the 160bmp video but that’s not the same.

Yeah they don’t want you to go back to the previous months. 2 solutions: 1) save them to favorites 2) find the link in your browser’s history tab. Didn’t try the 2nd one myself but someone else mentioned it in another thread.

Just FYI, the new sales pitch doesn’t really advertise the community aspects, it’s all about the dailies. Now they are also cutting down on the emails, so we can “concentrate on the playing”. To me it looks like they want to cash in on the lessons, which already exist and just need to be posted, that can be automated, and amputate the high-maintenance aspects of TAC, anything that involved more work: song vault, monthly meetings, emails, forums… maybe Tony is tired or has another project going on. Or, to end on an optimistic note, they’re working on something new for us and this is all in effort to manage resources to make it happen. They did the thing where they asked us to comment on the dailies, and there was a follow up asking to do a video questionnaire on Friday chords (at least I got one, I assume many others as well), so that’s a sign of something brewing.

I see your point but how accurate is it really if it also counts a 2 min login to browse the forums while guitar gathers dust in the corner… When I first joined, I thought it was only counting the times I hit “complete” because I had 5 days that weren’t counted when I was doing the 30 days course instead of the dailies and took more than a day per lesson. Maybe it was back then, early days for the website.
