@Mrfredsporty , That is an excellent idea. I purchased an inexpensive 1/2 size Cordoba classical guitar (1/2 size is just a few inches small too). Easy on my fingers, smaller to put on a stand between my fish tank and computer desk. Right there, easy to grab, go over the challenge and put back on the stand. I don’t have to worry so much if I hits the guitar on the side of the desk. Let me repeat, I think what you did was excellent. I still try not to put my guitars in a case only because if they aren’t easy to grab, I tend not to. 🙂

Using CAGED system C would use the A shape chord, root being C (root on A string, 3rd fret). F would use the D shape chord, root being on the D string 3 fret, G would also use the D shape chord, root being on the D string 5th fret.
Last was Key of D, 1-4-5 would be D G A. Using CAGED system D would use the C shaped chord, root being on the A string 5th fret. G would use the E shaped chord, root being on the low E string, 3th fret. A would also use the E shaped chord, root being on the 7th fret.
I know, i know… the extra credit. I’m so freaking happy with everything I have right now. I honestly think i’m getting this.

If I was going to find the CAGED barre chords for 1-4-5 chords in the Key of A, I could use any arraignment of chords I liked, is that correct? So with the Key of A, the 1-4-5 is A D E,
I would use the E shape, root is A for the chord of A. I would use the A shape root of D for the chord of D and I would use A shape root of E, for E. Does that sound correct? ok, now i’ll look at the comments.
I still have to do the C and D.

@KayMesser , congratulations on getting in a 100 days of playing sessions. It’s not an easy feat to accomplish.

@Elaine , good job on the challenge. Sometimes my fingers get all tied up on those challenges. Good job and keep it up. Good luck on the Wizard too.

I have heard the STRATs made in Mexico are made of a different wood. US is ash, Mexican is Alder. The tone is supposed to be different. I can see if It was a Acoustic the tone being different because of the wood, but not a solid guitar. I am sending a comparison for you. Is it going to matter?? I doubt it. Have fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMdYvOKfVYc

MemberDecember 12, 2022 at 5:23 am in reply to: Great Practice with Friday challenge in Key of G Barre@Bill_Brown , I know the day will come where i’ll have a light bulb moment and this will be easy. I think i’m getting there, but right now it’s not easy (ha ha ha). I have been reading and re-reading to try to get to what I should be doing, but more of why it works the way it does? This is what I have come up with.
If I was working in the Key of C, my 1 4 5 would be C F G. If I used an A barre for the C chord, then my F and G chord would be using the D shape. I played it as such and it sounded nice (1 4 5 1). I am thinking that since the chords shapes were close, working down the neck and back up the neck, using some of the same notes is why the harmony sounded good together. Am i even close!! 😨

I have noticed that the summary under the video does have some important information that is also in the video (another thing I don’t do is read anything). So now….. I got it. I used to save the videos back before the upgrades, since we can’t do that anymore this might be the next best thing. Thanks again for listening to my ramblings. 🙂

All sounds like good stuff just need to look it over carefully so I understand what you are explaining.
