@Steve2150, As others said, look for a guitar with a wider nut width. I actually have a 2001 Seagull S6 that I picked up about 2 years ago as a backup and it has a 1.8″ nut, way to wide for my short fingers, thus I now have it up for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Bought it before I knew about all the different specs, etc. The newer S6 models have a narrower nut.
Very impressed with the overall workmanship of these Seagulls BTW, especially at the low price point, so much so that I picked up another Seagull with a 1 and 11/16ths nut width which works better for me
Look around and I am sure you will find other guitars with the wider nut widths.
Enjoy

@mcarlson_sb – Sounds great. I have been contemplating acquiring similar equipment to give it a go. The few times I have recorded just using the camera and mic on my laptop, the results have been really bad – suddenly I can’t play worth a crap once the camera starts rolling (: I was also surprised at hearing the amount of ‘string squeak’ that I didn’t really notice until I recorded.
I assume using the right equipment at least results in better sound quality even if the playing is bad?
Just curious, did you buy the equipment as a Bundle” or individually?

I recorded myself playing a song I know well the other day and I was shocked at how bad it sounded and how many mistakes I made once the camera started rolling, so I can’t imagine doing what you did with the VOM.
Congrats

MemberFebruary 26, 2023 at 7:09 am in reply to: Anyone Belong to a Local Chapter of Guitars for Vets?@MisterBee – I am not a vet and don’t belong, but I had a mid sixties Hollow Body Electric Epiphone sitting in the basement for many years that I never used. I was going to sell it, but instead reached out to the local (Central Jersey shore area) Guitars for Vets rep that I found on line to see if they accepted donations. Guy got back to me quickly and could not have been more appreciative.
He also hit me up to volunteer to teach, but I didn’t feel I was good enough and they also still had COVID protocols in place last year, so there was no in person interaction. However, I may now have enough confidence to take him up on that request to volunteer teaching. Will see.
Seems like a great organization. I first heard about it here on TAC.

Nice job there. Like how you mixed the playing up with different techniques. Simple song with only 3 chords, but a lot can be done to make it cool.

@ Kerby, I personally don’t ‘Favorite’ much, however, I do download (PDF) everything and save them into appropriate files (e.g. Warmup, Licks, etc.). I also keep a running Excel file that summarizes each exercise so I can zero in on them later if desired. I find this approach very useful.

Nice job covering, both paying and vocals, Really sad to see the news of his passing.

Based on several recommendations from the crowd on the Acoustic Guitar Forum, I went with the Vornado Evap40 4-Gallon Evaporative Humidifier with Adjustable Humidistat and 3 Speeds. My “Guitar Room” is about 250 square feet, but there is an open doorway to the shop side of the basement which is another 250 square feet. It works really good and has a 4 gallon capacity.

The local rep on this end told met that he has seen Vets dealing with PTSD and other issues make huge progress in recovering by having the guitar to focus on. Said 10 guitar lessons were better than a year of professional help in some of the cases he had dealt with.

@Lorraine, Thanks. Didn’t think about VOMs – never had the guts to log on to one – maybe will give that a shot as there will be no pressure to play and I can just observe(:

@Marty69, thanks. Was thinking about Old Neil Young/Buffalo Springfield song vice military, (there is however, some overlap between the 2). It just popped to my head for the thread title for some reason.
