@dr_dave “TACing is Life”, can I quote you on that? Nailed it! I relate strongly to so much of what you said. “I play/practice a lot!” I think I do too but then I put it through my filter of “as compared to what”. I know this, I play more than I used to and IiiiiyyyaaahLikeit. I know I fall short of the likes of Antoine Dufour and what Pete Huttlinger used to do. Someday if I am lucky. I am persistent but the clock ticks.
I am right with you on the flatpick/fingerpicking thing. One of the toughest challenges and therefore in my mind one of the best was the Mississippi John Hurt Challenge. That put me on the verge of frustrated tears. God I loved it. And the whole getting lost thing…I am so comfortable in the rabbit hole now that what is on the outside of it seems like a foreign place.
👍 Great way how you TAC.

Nice Win @Alfred , I found the finger stretches to be an integral part of the whole deal. Now I can’t live without them.
Cheering with you!

Hi @Gord001 , True confessions: I have been at this solidly and faithfully for coming up on six years and I still get lost on the E A D strings. I have the GBE strings nailed down, so much so that I am playing intuitively on them 70% of the time but I still get lost and crash and burn. The good news, the recovery is so much faster now and I have been told by loved ones they can’t tell. I have very little musical aptitude (naturally) so for me it has been repetition, repetition, repetition. I like @Michael-K73 ‘s idea of using the tab sheets but I never figured that out either so I got stuck with the only thing that worked for me, repetition over time. I initially balked at the idea and became frustrated by the time element but I learned to let go of that and focus on the joy of the sound and the touch of the strings and that has led me to becoming the player I have always wanted to be. Don’t give up, find the joy in the ride.

Hi @Al.E , Well done and Happy TACiversary. You have done the hardest year and emerged with flying colors. Fantastic story, multilayered success. You have absolutely met the Certified Guitar Geek requisite. Takes one to know one. Wishing you joy in your play and freedom in your musical expression. (The metronome will set you free😉)

Hi @Deeaudy , Now there are 7 speeds to choose from going from 1/2 demonstration speed to 2x demonstration speed. The video speeds up or slows down but there is noticeable distortion even though the pitch is corrected for speed. Look next to the “gear wheel” at the bottom of the video and you should see “1x” click on that to change speed.

Congrats @NorCal_Nolan on your TACiversary. I have noticed improve focus on my part as well. The results are encouraging. Alls I can say Bm, priceless.

Hey @Tom000-18 , I understand the motive why one would want to go back and “catch up” I had that mindset myself at one time. I have been able to telescope out a little more and now my mindset is to put everything I have into the task at hand, there will be another lesson tomorrow. Any energy I would have spent “catching up” I have realized is better spent doing the thing in front of me with all I can give it. So I guess that put me kinda in the @NorCal_Nolan camp, as I have done both. For me, what I do now works better.

Hi @Irmela H good to see you again. Did you continue to play during your 2yr break?
-
Hi @Deirdre ,this link will take you to the list of VOMs, it is on our site.
For the second thing: I am thinking you are asking where you can go to learn how to notate rhythm? If that is correct, I don’t know where on TAC those directions live. Someone else might know but let’s make sure we are on the right track.

What??? I am dead??? I knew this simulation was too good to be true. Wait a second does that mean I have made you up too @Marty69 ?
Hi @Deirdre , I think we are all buddies in the grand sense, guitar geeks united etc. but I think anyone who responds directly to this post would fit your definition? Maybe?
Do you have something you are working through right at the moment and are looking for clarity? @Loraine called it. For fastest results post up a question in Community Support. Many Eyes make fast problem solving.

Hi @darcelle , I meant the harder the calluses are the LESS sound they make. I do have to file them down because they cause the tips to have a funny shape. When I get them to the shape of a pool cue I have the best accuracy.

I am glad you were able to keep it. I look forward to hearing its voice again!

Sincere condolences. I can relate.
I am happy you are finding your way back. Do you still have the Lakewood? I am thinking it had a moon spruce top?
