I’m just starting to learn some songs (I am still very much a beginner).

I really love the YT channel Song Notes by David Pots. He has great visuals in his videos and breaks down the skills for each song in a fantastic way. His videos are free and you have the option to pay for the tabs if you want a PDF download. I just stick to the free videos. I’m currently working on the songs Blue Eyes Crying in The Rain, Clay Pigeons, and Blackbird https://www.youtube.com/@songnotes

I also enjoy Good Guitarist on YT. He has a scrolling tab in his YT videos and breaks down the songs into very simple steps. He also pauses and shows you how to build strumming patterns from the most simple Down to a DUDUUD style strum. He has lots of beginner songs & some fun holiday specific ones. https://www.youtube.com/@Good_Guitarist/about

Justin Guitar has some great songs and the videos are almost like a streaming guitar hero style lesson. His Grade 1 songs are great. I’m working on Three Little Birds. His website is free for the beginner courses and you can pay for access to a phone app with more songs. I don’t use the app, just the free site. https://www.justinguitar.com/songs?f=beginner_grade_1

Justin Johnson’s (another Justin) songs are too complicated for me (his are really advanced), but he has an excellent beginner Fingerstyle video. I did the 15 min practice every day after my TAC Challenge for one month and it really improved my fingerstyle which has helped for the song Clay Pigeons that I’m learning on David Pots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWSSS7tJ2wQ

    I hope this helps!

I also really regret not filming my first days, weeks, and months. I’m about 5 months into picking up the guitar and really do need to film myself – just as a reminder of where I started. Tomorrow, I’ll record a video just for myself. Thanks for sharing and keep playing & practicing!

I think it is beautiful that you recognize the impact her voice and music made on you and reaching out to share. I think it is appropriate and part of what any community is around for.

I still think one of the reasons I finally picked up a guitar was the realization of how much John Prine meant to me after his passing.

Christine McVie was such a force. Do you have a favorite song you are listening to today?

When I started TAC I was completely new to guitar. My approach with 30 Days to play was to stick to practicing the videos available for the given week – sometimes there weren’t enough videos for each day so I would just go back to the videos from that week or the previous week to work on getting clean sounds and work on accuracy. I focused on repetition.

Again, it was the first time I had picked up the guitar so I wasn’t able to increase speed at the time. Now, a few months in I tend to go back to the 30 Days To Play play alongs and revisit them the last two days of the month to work on speed. It is a great anchor as well to see progress. I was worried that I plateaued recently but went back to the 30 Day lessons and saw that I could play them with less difficulty.

    Good luck! Have fun.

This is fantastic! So happy to hear that you were able to enjoy the session and move past your nerves. I haven’t joined a jam yet, but it seems like so much fun.

Thank you so much for the generous words and encouragement. I agree, I’m always worried I sound like a howling dog. One of these days I’ll embrace my Mom’s maiden name, Wolf, and just howl as loud as I can and enjoy it. For now, practice, practice, practice.
