Or, you could call it the joy of sharing, @Mrfredsporty . But it’s not selfish at all. I know you were poking fun, but I feel this is important. Selfish is “no concern for others”, which is a really unwanted thing. Self-centered, on the other hand, is simply paying too much attention to yourself. Foolish maybe, but not a big, bad thing. But you aren’t even doing that. You are engaged in self-improvement within a community so you can’t help but benefit others also. Pretty much the opposite of selfish, it’s caring and sharing. You are part of the guitar kindness community.

Hey @subsailor731 ;
Congratulations of this big small win. The joys of guitar have entered your life. This is the biggest difference between Tony’s method and others, you must have fun from the start.
So I hope you pay attention to @Bill_Brown ‘s comment. It is spot on and much more precise and concise than I would have said it. He really hit the nail on the head. Always have fun and forget about mastery.

Congratulations @the-old-coach , not so much on the 500, but on putting the effort in to gain so much guitar mojo from the forum. Good for you. But now, I want to point something out:
@GerryB56 said “I’ve been ruminating recently on nailing down my guitar goals more precisely, and it’s great to have some concrete examples like yours to motivate me.”
Notice that while you’re still learning and feeling like a newcomer yourself, by actively sharing your journey with us those who have come after you are looking up to your example. So everything’s relative, my friend. Just remember that when you think I am a guitar guru. (I’ve got over 1000 playing sessions. It does add up and it does lead to improvement. But I have a long way to go.)

Hey Mark @the-old-coach and Fred @Mrfredsporty .
Mark said: “Earlier on in my TAC-career, very generally, I focused more on “doing LESS, but doing it “better”. Pretty-much perfect was the only option before I moved to the next step. But— I think I felt like I just wasn’t progressing “fast enough” or something….. So I pretty-much abandoned that general philosophy.”
“(Dumb analogy— Nibblin’ away on a giant cookie versus stuffing the whole thing in your mouth at once and chewing forever). Takes the same amount of time either way, right?”
So first, “perfect” can be very misleading. We do need to work on accuracy and people do get to the point where they can play something “perfectly”. But, yes, you say it in your edit, there is a balance. So, where is that balance?
Second, no, it would not be the same either way, and that’s really the point. It does make a difference whether you stuff the whole thing in or nibble.
So, here is a video that really helped my to see how to put the whole thing together. When do I try for perfection, when do I push for speed, when am I wasting my time and maybe even ingraining mistakes, how much should I go over old stuff, how much new stuff to learn? Lots of questions. This made them clear for me.
It’s called “Get better at music by practicing less” and the YouTube channel is Brad Harrison Music. (Just open YouTube and type the title into the search and you’ll find it.)
I hope this helps.

It’s true that when someone asks a question, others are benefited @Al.E . If you have any questions, please post them so we can help, Al.

Well, there are 2 things about giving up a Martin D-28 @Cadgirl . The first is that you were given a nice buy back price as they hold such value. The other is that you have the opportunity to NOT let the opinion of others sway you. Just because it’s perhaps the most ubiquitous guitar in the world doesn’t make it the best guitar in the world.

Yes, that’s right, @the-old-coach , how the “go together” is the idea. But more pointedly, how the sound together.
Make sure you download that chart I gave you and study it. It is the circle of 5ths in a more understandable form. The problem with the circle of 5ths is that it’s like a code. If you can understand the code, then you can remember it and you don’t need the code.
Anything you don’t understand in the chart just pm me a question.
