Congratulations @Bill_Brown . The funny thing, is. it just isn’t that difficult once you “see” it and you wonder why you didn’t “get it” earlier. But the really important thing to me is that you put the new found understanding to work having fun on the guitar. That’s what it’s all about.

Oh yeah! I work as a handyman, and so I do things that get my hands very tired. They just feel weak. That definitely hurts my guitar skill for that day. But there are other days there doesn’t seem to be a “good” reason, but I just can’t play for anything.

That’s excellent @paul0r . I applaud your dedication and regularity. My highest was 80-something. Most of the time, I don’t make it past a week without getting a reset. But then, I am highly irregular. 🤣

It is also very easy to pluck these four strings with your thumb and index, middle and ring fingers.
The muting technique that @jumpinjeff explains is important for all kinds of jazz chords and other non-standard chords that will make your playing sound more interesting and more advanced.

@Rich_P. @Loraine @Bill_Brown
👍😊
PS, the “minor”, “accidentals” and “major” doesn’t mean the key, but the chords of the key. So KC10 – minor would be the minor chords found in the key KC10 is referring to. The key in question could be a major key, but the lesson is about the minor chords found in that key. That was confusing to me.

Awesome @BethL . I, too, was thrown out of my regular routine with the platform change. I don’t know what knocked you out of your rhythm, but all that’s important is that we start bouncing along again.
We would love to see you at the VOMs. You can find information about them at justmusicgeeks.com.

Boy, do I agree with @Bill_Brown when he says the FW course is worth the $$, @Moonhare . It used to be that you could sign up and take the course anytime you wanted. But they have had a lot going on with the platform change. And they have been working on a bunch of new things. It seems slow to us, but these things take time.
Anyway, the FW course seemed to open my eyes of understanding on some basic level. I had take music theory before that and already knew most of the information. So I learned very little from the course. But somehow, my understanding grew tremendously. Tony was able to connect the dots for me. After that, my theory knowledge and understanding just kept growing without much effort. It is very easy for me to look back and see that it was the FW course that led to my growth as a guitarist and a musician. And I want to highlight how it allowed me to start learning from other sources and videos when they just seemed like Greek before.

I hope you like it @Dirk. I think there is a very good chance that you will. It is a lower end guitar, but Martin’s name is still on it. They don’t sell junk. And I think the jr size is a good choice. And the Martin has a slightly larger neck which is good for finger picking. If the neck is a little uncomfortable at first, don’t let that throw you. It won’t take long at all and you will start seeing the benefit of having a guitar with a wider neck. No, it won’t play like you semi-hollow electric. But that’s why we have more than one guitar. They can all do the same things, but they can’t all do different things as well.
I hope to see you at a VOM with your new Martin DJr.

Yes, the important thing, Mark, is to have fun. Life got in the way of your having fun with the guitar and now you are back and having a whole different kind of fun with your guitar. That’s just wonderful.

I am happy you are progressing and having fun Alan. Like I ended my post, I hope I didn’t come off too strong.
I remember when I first came to TAC, I was confused about how things worked. And when I had been here a couple of months, I had definitely made progress and it seemed like it had happened by magic. I have thought a lot about that “magic” and made many comments about it since then.
After a certain amount of time, some people say they are bored with the lessons. Ok, some people get way better than I’ll ever be and can actually play all the lessons at the high speed. I can understand why they would get bored. But I don’t believe I’ll ever get good enough to get bored with the daily lessons.

I’m not sure how you figured this one out, but I appreciate getting the info. I haven’t gone to the song vault in a long time, but I didn’t want to lose it.
Thank you so much for posting this Jason @That_Guy

MemberOctober 25, 2021 at 9:57 am in reply to: My first successful Friday daily challenge with a Barre Chord.Pretty much no one actually plays the C shaped and G shaped barre chords @albert_d . Many people will play a partial chord taken from those shapes. And those shapes are the roadmap to the fretboard that allow people to improvise a solo all over the fretboard. But if you can get them, more power to you. There are a small number of people who do play those impossible barre chords. And what about the D shaped barre chord. I find it easier than either the C or G shape.
I hope this helps.

Hey @Dirk_R , as far as the comparison of the Taylor GS Mini and the Martin Dread Jr, the Taylor is built better. I’m pretty sure the Martin doesn’t have a solid top.

That’s great @DrBob . An awful lot of us had to rework our thinking when we joined TAC. But this is the beautiful idea that works: have fun with direction equals progress. Yeah, direction is in there, but it’s not ridgid, it’s just a beginning to get the creative juices flowing and still gain technical skill.
Have fun and rock on.
