I really appreciate hearing what TAC has done for you Omar. You seem like such an accomplished player, it’s good to hear how you have been benefited by TAC. It’s really important to realize that TAC helps all of us according to what we are able to do. It can help us no matter how good we are. And it helps us even if we will never be very accomplished. We are all given the direction and support we need to be the best we can be. I have a lot of joy in my guitar journey when I remember that.

That’s some pretty amazing guitar playing @Marty69 . I’m sure it’s far better than what you could do before you joined TAC. It’s the improvement that’s important. (I don’t know if I will ever get that fast at picking.) Thanks for posting.

That’s a great win @Ted_D . Thanks for sharing. We all need this kind of determination if we are going to keep going and have progress on our guitar journey.

Hey @andy_e , I didn’t read the advice that was what I needed when I was troubled by this challenge, so I will share it with you.
Even after I had been playing for a fairly long time I had finger pain. I would get grooves in the tips of my fingers. I learned that if I filed off some of the thick skin around the groove and especially the flaking, peeling skin right in the middle of the callous that got caught on the strings it helped a lot.
Every now and then, when the callous gets so thick that a groove starts to form, I pull out the nail file and take off some of the callous. Not only does this stop the problems the groove causes but my fingers are actually less sore. It’s the thickened pad underneath the skin that I want, not the build up of old, dead skin on the outside. This is simply part of my regular maintenance so I can play guitar every day way too much of the time.

That’s awesome @Snappers . Our lives go up and down, but our guitar routine can be steady if we just do the daily lesson for a minimum of 10 minutes per day. We will see slow but steady progress in all areas of guitar skills. It’s a wonderful set up.

</div><div>Wow, that was an amazing job with that song @Marisa . The chords rhythm and voice were spot on. You definitely captured the spirit of Joni Mitchell’s song. Thanks for posting, it’s always fun watching your enthusiastic performances. </div>MG 😀

Thank you @Loraine . For me, seeing the truth is usually more difficult than admitting the truth. But you are right that either way, if I don’t have the truth my guitar journey will be slowed down or stalled altogether.

I thank you for this little nugget @jumpinjeff .
I used to think I was “smart”. Now I understand that is an illusion. Life is a process, but it doesn’t move forward at a steady speed. There are jumps and stalls to the forward motion. That means at times I can appear to make spectacular progress and other times it appears that I am incapable of progress. Both things are illusions. The truth is that time and effort were put in during the “stall” period that lead to the “jump” forward. So I was neither spectacular nor incapable.
But I have been slow at applying this insight to my guitar journey. It took time for me to realize that I had to put in such pain staking effort with no visible results for quite a while before the “miracle” would happen. I still want to think “I should be able to get this faster, better, cleaner, smarter, bigger, etc.” And when the little miracles happen (small wins), I want to think “Ok, I am a capable of being a guitar player”, which implies “from now on, I will make the kind of progress I expect“. See how subtle I am at avoiding that little word that I know is a trap?
So thank you for solidifying this understanding that I have to take things real slow to get new things under my fingers AND YET it doesn’t mean I am incapable of making progress in my guitar journey.
So here is today’s guitar lesson: I am neither spectacular nor incapable. I am simply a guitar geek like everyone else and news flash: this is what it takes. 😄

Thanks so much @Bill_Brown , for coming by and checking out my intention. This helps me to be accountable. The community is very powerful at helping us make advancement in our guitar journey when we participate.

I, too, like the new site, @Mark.
As for not “seeing” some of the regulars from before, I have to plead guilty. At first, it was shock. I spent a lot of my time on the TAC forums and the forums as they used to be were gone. Then, when I tried to get more involved again, the very slow load speed put me off. I am too impatient to wait. But when the speed on the forums finally became reasonable, I was turned off by all the complaining.
So now, the only problem is me. I just haven’t contributed to the community like I used to. I used to tell people who complained about the community that you get out of it what you put into it. So that goes for me. I’m not getting much of anything out of the community any more, not because of the new site, but because I’m not putting much into it. My bad.

I think it is wise not to get rid of the Fender. As you move along your guitar journey, that first guitar will take on greater meaning to you and you will be able to use it to greater effect as you get better.
